    7. I really like your hosting services, but don't know how to move my site. - Top

Moving most sites is a relatively simple process, however a lot of people don't have the tools to do this. We can move your site for you, adjust the feedback forms etc so they all work on our servers for our standard hourly rate. Most moves take 1 hour or less unless there are a lot of scripts etc that need to be modified. You can email us for a quote on moving your site to our servers email Working Dogs - Updated: July 28, 2001

    8. What's this DogBits, DogGear and other domain names we see referenced throughout the site? - Top

These are all part of the Working Dogs Family, quite simply we felt a need to provide demo sites on our hosting servers so you can judge for yourself the superior performance we provide in web hosting. The Dogbits.Net site is located on our Value plan server, and the Dogbits.Com site is on our Standard plan server and finally Workingdogs.com where you are now is on our Premium plan server. Many web hosts sites are placed on servers where the performance is better than what you actually get when you rent a site from them. We place all our sites on exactly the same servers as we put our customer sites.

    9. My ISP does web hosting, why should I consider you to do the same thing? - Top

There are a number of reasons:

Reliability - Most ISP's simply don't have the resources that our large Network Operation Centers have. Things like multiple connections to the internet backbone, where if a cable is cut somewhere traffic is routed through alternate connections automatically. Or multiple redundant backups and a host of other things.

Performance - We searched long and hard and actually put test sites on a number of server farms to find the absolute best performance for the money. All too many times what you see is not what you get when shopping for ISP's and we did the homework to make your life easier. All our sites are located directly off major internet backbones, not relayed through small T1 pipes somewhere.

Features - We are very picky about what we expect from a site, and don't expect any less for our customers. All of our plans give you total flexibility in designing your site and the tools to do it with. From being able to add and delete your own email addresses real-time online to managing mailing lists, shopping carts, Secure Server for Credit Card Orders, forms, site security (password protected areas), page counters and much much more.. These are all things included in any of our packages and that you would be hard pressed to find with most local ISP's at no additional cost.

Support - Most small business and kennel owners don't speak techno-babble, nor understand it. Working Dogs Design works hard at ensuring that we communicate with you in plain english, something you can understand. And if the problem is something where the high level techs at the network operation centers need involvement, we talk to them to ensure speedy resolution of a problem.

Cost - Small Business and Kennels aren't made of gold, we realize that. So we put together the most cost effective hosting plans that don't nickel and dime you to death. Our smallest "Basic Standard" plan which is $12 per month provides more storage space, bandwidth, page hits, and features than a site which typically costs $40 or more with local ISP's. Here in Colorado Springs a business website is going to cost $35 for the basic site with 20 megs of storage and it allows 500 megs of bandwidth (amount of traffic) and gives you 5 email addresses. Things like having a secure server for credit card transactions and other necessities in todays e-commerce sites all add to the $35 cost.. Out of curiosity I got a quote based on what workingdogs.com uses and it was $124 per month.. In comparison our $12 "Basic Standard" account provides 50 Megs of Storage, 3,000,000 megs of bandwidth, 50 email addresses, secure server for e-commerce, shopping cart, and a host of other features all controllable by you with no need of waiting on someone to enable a feature or change/add/delete an email address. And we provide this all for no additional cost.

    10. But I can get a completely FREE website many places on the web.. Why should I pay for one? - Top

Well, as the old saying goes.. "Nothing in Life is Free"...

The purpose of having a website is to promote your business or interests. Most of the "Free" sites inundate your visitors with annoying popup advertisements, get incredibly slow during peak traffic hours, and severely limit what you can do with your site. So the net result is that visitors often run out of patience and move on to other sites and come back less often. It is difficult enough to establish a professional presence on the web without flying popup ads driving people away from you.. Why decrease your odds in keeping visitors coming back to your site?

    11. Ok, I am interested, but I have someone else doing my site design work, does this matter? - Top

    Absolutely Not!

While Working Dogs does provide professional design services, we will host anyones site designed by anyone else. All of our hosting plans provide ftp, telnet, and Frontpage access and you control who has access to them.

    12. How long does it take to set up an account with you? - Top

Usually Less than 24 hours after you place your order you will have access to your new site by IP address so you can set things up on it. Often we get sites set up in less than 1 hour. However occassionally it could take up to 48 hours if we need to customize things or transfer your site for you.

One thing to note though, if you are moving a domain or registering a new domain it typically takes the internet 48-72 hours to update all the name servers with your new address. So while you will be able to access it through IP address during this period, visitors won't see it going to www.yourdomain.com until it is propagated throughout the web.

    13. Ok, Now I am confused.. You have so many different plans I don't know what to choose. - Top

Well, if you are a small business or kennel you probably will find our $12 "Basic Standard" or the $16 Plus Value accounts more than ample for your needs. They provides complete stats on your disk usage and bandwidth used and if you see they are close to their limits, we can upgrade them to what is appropriate. But for most small business you will never get close to the limits.

If you are going to push a lot of video and audio clips as well as have lots of picture galleries then perhaps one of the larger plans will better fit your needs.

    14. I see you have "Value", "Standard" and "Premium" plans, what is the difference? - Top

Aside from the various feature sets which you can compare on our Comparison Chart, there is not much difference between the plans. The Value and Premium plans are on servers where we are guaranteed 99.9% uptime vs. the Standard plan server which guarantees 99.5% uptime. The control panels on all 3 plans are a little different looking from the others, but they all provide access to the site features the respective plans have.

    15. I don't have a domain name, can you get one for me? - Top

    Sure enough!

When you order a website from us, indicate what domain name you would like and we will try to get it for you, if it is already taken by someone else we will let you know what variations of the name you requested are available and let you choose which you want before registering it. There is a $15 per year fee for domain name registration which is out of our control but you will always own the domain name as long as you pay the fees on it with the registrar.

    16. What if I don't want to get my own domain name, but still want a web site? - Top

We can do that as well!

While we recommend having your own domain so that if you ever change hosting services your identity can go with you, we do provide 3rd level domains on our dogbits.com (standard plans), dogbits.net (value plans) and workingdogs.com (premium plans) site. We can provide any of the accounts as 3rd level domains, it is just a matter of which plan you pick as to which server they will be on.

    Here are some examples:

    Value plans would be:
    http://yourname.dogbits.net

    Standard plans would be:
    http://yourname.dogbits.com

    Premium Plans would be:
    http://yourname.workingdogs.com

The yourname portion would be changed to whatever you want if available and you would still have all the email and other features of the account you choose.

If a domain is not available or taken before our system can register it, we will notify you and offer to register another domain or refund the registration charges.

Data Transfer Allowances (monthly data transfer / bandwidth)
Our policy is to notify the customer in the event an account comes close to or exceeds their included monthly limit, and ask them to upgrade to a higher package. If we cannot contact the client, cannot upgrade the account or they refuse to upgrade, then we charge $15.00 per 1000 MB per month.

We make no promises of profit or income. You are responsible for abiding by laws/tax laws applicable in your place of business.
