This phone is a high-quality piece of equipment that is just the right size with just the right amount of gadgetry and pizzaz. I didn't want an iPhone b/c well, frankly, it's becoming a sort of marker for the rampant DB population in my opinion--I just wanted a nice phone that I could check email on, surf the internet on the rare occasion I needed to outside of work or home, and communicate with friends via text, FB, and messenger. This phone looks good, is very easy to navigate, and can take a licking and keep on ticking----I dropped it outside my house and it laid in thick dew for 10 hours---started right up the next day when I found it and let it dry out. The screen is absolutely perfect---good size and excellent resolution. The apps I've downloaded are useful and not difficult to navigate--but in all honesty, I don't anticipate using those very much. Great phone, and with the deals they have for it---great price. Get it now before you have to get the redesigned Bold they just released---smaller screen and not as attractive, IMO.

I've had a problem with the Bold since day 1. I've gone through three devices and still have the problem. My phone is echoey, bad service, misses calls, drops calls. It was barely usable. I hated it (still do) until I figured out how to mitigate the problem.
I'm a heavy user of my mobile devices. I put several applications on it that I require. Google maps for directions, eWallet for passwords...actually..that's all I need. I text message a ton, email a ton.
It turns out thatn once I've loaded up my applications, the phone seems to slow down or something. And this "slowness" only presents itself when on a phone call with all the above symptoms. To fix it, I have to wipe the handheld back to nothing and start over. Once wiped, the phone quality is just fine (I almost said great...but I'm so annoyed with the phone I refuse to say it). But if I add the apps back...after a few days, all my symptoms will come back. I hate this...because the GPS is one of the main reasons I got the phone.
I have two bolds on my AT&T plan. One for an employee who only uses it for the phone features. His has no problems. All three of mine had this issue. Having just switched from Verizon, I was blaming AT&T for the longest time since I couldn't imagine how adding a few apps to the blackberry would impact phone quality. But now I think I'm convinced it's the phone. The only thing AT&T will do is replace it under warranty. They also have this thing where if you replace a phone under warranty three times, they'll let you swap out with a different phone OF THEIR CHOICE. That's not acceptable.
So...I'll tolerate this until the contract is over...and I think I'll go back to Verizon with whatever the current version of the Moto Q is. I did like that phone. I've tried the touchscreen ones (Blackberry and iPhone)...and it was too difficult to type. I used them both for a month each...and didn't like it. It's fine for casual use, but intensive typing is too difficult. I need the buttons.

I initially purchased this device in 2008 from AT&T when it just came out and changed 3 of them since that time. First had a problem with trackball after couple of months of use. The other one had dead pixels on the screen. So I am on my third device now. My primary aim for this device is usage of chat software(IM+), emails and internet browsing (Opera Mini). This is by far is one of the best and user friendly devices I have used. It is not laggy as windows mobile devices, The menus can be accessed quickly with no delays. And especially multitasking (which iphone lacks) is a very nice feature that has been helping me a lot while chatting, making a phone call, and watching a video or listening to the music at the same time. Of course I had to update it with the latest firmware update. Before that, I had some java errors and spontaneous reboots, but not anymore. Since the last update I can confirm that I had NO problems whatsoever. I have few complaints though which in my opinion are minor ones and I can live with them. First is the battery life. If I am not using internet very often it may last a day and a half but when I am browsing with Opera Mini or chatting on IM+ the battery drains very quickly so I have to carry another battery with me. Another thing I would prefer to have is a nice youtube player which I can't find anywhere (I tryed a couple of them). And the youtube that plays with a native browser is just garbage, which is kind of sad because other phones like Iphone and HTC touch pro 2 can play youtube quite nicely. And last but not least is the camera. Outdoors, on the bright light you can get more or less decent pictures but if you will try to shoot a video it will come out as a total crap, pixelated with distorted lighting. And the flash isn't helping much either. Unlike for example with Nokia n97 which takes pretty decent pictures and videos. But like I said these things are minor ones and since this phone is being oriented more for a business user you can't expect to have it all. Especially I like the ability to operate this device with one hand only, which comes in handy in many situations, unlike some other phones with larger keyboards I have tried. Of course another nice feature is a multilanguage support which you can not have in windows mobile phones (e.g. convert device and keyboard interface in spanish, german or other language at no charge) Now I am only expecting the release of OS 5.0 which I will immediately install on my device. So let's see how that goes. I definitely recommend Blackberry Bold for someone who is searching for a device with push email, chatting and light internet use.

best phone i've ever had! my next phone will be the next blackberry that at&t releases!!!! i just wish they had more apps and more memory for apps or ability 2 save apps on the memory card!

I purchased the Blackberry Bold with an AT&T plan through Amazon a couple of weeks ago. My business partner has the Bold and recommended it to me. It was delivered promptly, just a couple of days.
The Bold has a lot of positives. There are many bells and whistles. The calendaring function and ability to access my multiple email accounts are very helpful for business purposes. Pulling up maps and driving instructions with such ease is a big plus also while I'm on the road. I'm still playing around with it to get my shortcuts the way I prefer them, because some of the functions I'm used to accessing with ease are a bit more burdensome to reach right now. In general, it is a good product for business use. Although it is big, the big screen is a major plus so I can live with the extra size and weight.
So far, however, I have found a couple of downsides to the Bold. The battery drains quickly, quicker than any phone I've owned to date, by far. The bigger issue though, is that the sound quality on calls is far less than I am accustomed to. Surprisingly, in some areas I travel to, there is consisently a lot of static on the line. As I typically give clients my cell number to reach me and clear communication is a priority, this is a problem for me.
In sum, for data, email, and other apps, this is a nice device. As a phone, I find it lacking. For the price, I'd prefer it was more proficient in that area also. While I find it acceptable for now, frankly, I don't see myself keeping it over the long term. I'll be looking for a device that is not only good at the business apps, but also a good phone as well.
