Evenflo Top-of-Stair Plus Gate, Natural Wood November 20, 2009 Latoya L. Lewis (Charleston, SC) I love the product. The only issue we had was making sure we found the stud. In our home there ended up being a little gap between the bottom of the gate and the floor. Due to our stud placement in our home, this allowed one of my twins to lay down and skoot under. Otherwise...it's great for making sure they don't tumble down the stairs. Prior to purchasing I read reviews about ease of use. I've yet to get my finger caught in the latch. It was a little hard for the older children to get it open, but with practice they got it. I would definitly recommend it.
Good gate for the stairs for little money November 12, 2009 C. Alcala (Rio Rancho, NM) I have purchased four of these exact gates now. I love how they open by sliding to the side and then swinging out of your way. They are light weight and very easy to install. We put one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top. My 16 year old came bounding down the stairs and slammed into the closed gate and the wood just snapped. That was gate number three to purchase. Then my 13 year old kicked the top gate when he was upset and crack one of the upright poles...that was purchase number four. My 18 month old twins grab them, shake them and climb them and they still hold up for them. My dogs have not been able to get through or around them either. I DO like these gates, just be aware they are NOT tough duty gates and you may need to replace over time.
Great for the price! November 2, 2009 T. Corcoran (Minnesota) So, I don't think there are any gates that are easy to install...but this one wasn't too bad. I really like that you can collapse the gate together and push it flat against the wall/railing so that when not in use you have a clear pathway to get through. I also appreciate that it doesn't self lock because then our preschooler would be stuck every time he wants to go up and down. We have to have the extra tall gate and so our options are limited and we've also tried the Summer Infant brand. This is less obtrusive and again, I like that the gate opens fully so you can still have the entire stairway free if you're making lots of trips or carrying something large. The only downfall I could see is if you have a large toddler/child that's really shaking the bars repeatedly to get it open, I am not sure it would hold up. That being said, I feel safe with it in my home and versus other gates we have purchased.
Great gate! November 1, 2009 MeMeMe We just received this gate and are very pleased. It was easy to install and looks nice.
Sliding feature and angle mount make this a winner October 18, 2009 S. C. Reh (Rochester, NY) I've had this gate for 4 months and have not been disappointed. I read in other reviews that you could mount the gate at a slight angle. This worked well for me, especially combined with the sliding feature. In a hallway, this works great because you can make the gate half its size when you open it, in order to comfortably move around it. You can also choose to swing the gate either way (which is what I've done), giving you more flexibility. If you don't want to do that, you can install the piece that will prevent movement in the other direction. I also like that you can open and close it one-handed. Sometimes, though, I need to use my foot to guide the bottom rail into the slot. This is because the gate is so light and the wood will bend. For that reason, you have to take care that children do not climb or pull on it. That said, my 17-month old has grabbed the bars a few times to shake the gate, and there has been no damage or decrease in stability. We've taught her not to do that, for the shaking would probably compromise the gate over time. Overall, a great gate that meets my needs at a reasonable price.
