Dumb November 20, 2009 Paul C. Leddy (seattle, wa usa) A few good points that need to be said and can only be said in the excuse called humor.
After 20 pages, my brain stopped working.
What amazes me is the tenacity of these people to keep going on on the same dumb joke for a couple hundred pages. I guess when they think about the money in sales, and they stretch it over a few months, they get by.
Funny, but I'm not sure I get it November 18, 2009 John J. Franco (Swissvale, PA United States) I bought this book because I saw the author on The Daily Show, and, well, we are expecting, so it seemed to make sense. David Javerbaum was absolutely hysterical on TV so I figured the book would be equally funny.
I found the book to be generally enjoyable, but I'm not sure where it fits. I've already read "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and the book does follow a very similar structure - taking you through each month, listing the changes that the fetus goes through and some other points of discussion.
While I found the book to be funny, and it did have some LOL moments, it wasn't as funny as I thought. It obviously isn't intended as a replacement for "What to Expect When You're Expecting" so I guess it's more of a funny companion. I think the book is best read as an accompaniment to that book, or maybe as a substitute if one of the parents isn't willing to read the 'real' book. Some of the language and topics can be coarse so it's not something you could read to an older child expecting a younger sibling. It does provide some laughs, so maybe it would be best as a way to take a break from the 'seriousness' of expecting a child?
I guess not every book needs a place, and this one was enjoyable enough to be worth reading anyway.
baby shower gift November 14, 2009 jimofthenorth (Wisconsin) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I saw this book on the "Colbert Report". I ordered it as a gag gift for the baby shower for my daughter in law. She loves it. Before giving it My wife and I read it. Not a single sentence goes by without a hilarious zinger. Amazingly, much of the humor is true to life. There are also passages that push satire to your pants wetting limit.
OK, not as good as I had expected October 30, 2009 Stella L. Ross (Phoenix, Arizona United States) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
This wasn't a bad book I was just expecting something that would make me laugh a bit more and no the tried humor I got
This Book's A Keeper October 20, 2009 Maxine Maxwell (Lincoln, NE) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my daughter who's expecting. She may have to fight me for it. I haven't stopped laughing since the first page. It also mixes in good info along the way. Great way to get any expectant mommy (and daddy) through the ups and downs of pregnancy.
