5 out of 5 stars Another great book by Patricia briggs.   March 20, 2010
littleaccent (Brandon, MS United States)
Great addition to the series by Patricia Briggs! It's nice to see Anna and Charles working out their new life.

I loved seeing more of the Cornik's from her other series, Mercy Thompson. Readers are thrown head first into the story, however and I think readers will benifit greatly from reading the anthology, On The Prowl, as it contains the beginning to this series. I read it after reading the first two Alpha and Omega books and wish someone had told me!

I highly recommend Patricia Briggs other series, Mercy Thompson. You'll get to see more of the Cornick's world.

2 out of 5 stars A few fine points but so violent it is just gross 1 SPOILER   March 19, 2010
D. Christensen (Utah)
Patricia Briggs has been one of my favorite authors. Her writing was excellent, exciting, and fun without being full of excessive "shock tactics" of sex and violence.
Her earlier books have a true "story telling" feel to them that make them magical.
But the Mercedes Thompson stories have started to feel formulaic, and the same for The Alpha & Omega books, which is sad since this is only book 2.

I was hoping for a gentle love story between Anna and her wolf as they get to know each other - not the brief lusty scenes that are just filler. And violence is prevalent everywhere. I realized at some point that if this had been a movie I would of walked out gagging. The only reason for so much violence is because what should of really been the storyline - building Anna and Charlie's relationship, was too time consuming to write - and would of made this book to boring for some readers. Anna as a character does grow but her ending statment that declare her love for Charlie *****SPOILER***** that she would kill for him again - just made me feel a little nauseated. I've started to accept that Brigg's storywriting has taken paths I no longer enjoy reading - I am still going to finish her earlier books - but unless she can return to a better kind of story telling I'll have to pass her books by.

5 out of 5 stars great series   March 18, 2010

Great read. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I hope there is more to come in this series.

4 out of 5 stars Hunting Ground   March 11, 2010
One Book At A Time
This book had a little bit of a slow start for me. I was afraid it wouldn't have the same pull as Cry Wolf. I kept reading because I like the characters and I was hoping it would pick up. I was in for a treat. The story became very intense later on. I enjoyed the mystery and the thrills. It was definitely a page turner from about half way through the book (the story picked up way before that). I love how the author manages to pull in different mythical races into one story without making it seem like to much information. The author has created a tightly woven subculture in today's human world. I really loved watching Charles' and Anna's character evolve with each other. And, I was relieved to finally learn a little bit more about what an Omega werewolf is. I will be looking forward to the next in the series!

4 out of 5 stars 4 Stars for Hunting Ground   February 26, 2010
L. Reeves (US & UK, both I call home)
4 Stars - Hunting Ground is the second book in the Alpha and Omega series and picks up almost right where we left off with Cry Wolf. It tells us the continued story of Anna and Charles Cornick - as they head to Seattle for a meeting with the Alphas from around the world to discuss them coming out to the world as the Fey have. (Note, this is a sister series to the Mercy Thompson series by the same author. This and that series follow along almost the same time line, so the stories do cross here and there.)

Bran - Charles father, The Marrok - head of all the packs in the US is planning for them to revel themselves. Most of the wolves agree, yet some are pushing with force that this not happen.

This meeting was a place for all to listen and air concerns about the pending reveal to the world. No matter what, Bran's plans are in place to tell the World, he just wants to make it known that he's there to help, support and guide no matter what the outcome might be for them all.

With this looming over them... knowing not all the wolf packs around the world support this, there was bound to be trouble.

We get a chance to see more of Anna and Charles in their new relationship and marriage. We get to see more of the emotional scars that Anna has from her past. It's great to see just how calm and patient Charles is with her, knowing who he is and what he does - he's his father's enforcer/assassin. It just makes me LOVE this couple even more. I like seeing how Charles is just as timid around Anna because of who HE is and not just because of her past. It was great even with this second book that we could continue along with them as they worked through their still new relationship.

I also loved that we had a chance to see more of the fierce side of Anna. In the end both Anna and Charles worked together to deal with the threats that surround them and were brought closer together because of it; both growing in the process - which I felt was important to the telling of their story within in the larger one.

All in all, this is one of my favorite series. I love Briggs writing style and ability to weave a great story. Props to her with how she's able to interweave two different series into the same world. This is one you don't want to miss.
