5 out of 5 stars Charming and Practical   December 9, 2009
Mrs E (Naples, Florida)
I received this book as an engagement gift, and I re-read it every year or so. The author is honest and good humored. What I liked about it was that it gave me some solace that every step-mom goes through common experiences, and it gave some great insight on boundaries, and some of the dynamics that come with a blended family.

I highly recommend this book!

4 out of 5 stars Single Girl's Guide   December 5, 2009
J. Crowell (Colorado, USA)
This is such a great book. I am about to become a stepmother and this book had me laughing and smiling and made it seem like I could make it. I have read it twice already and figure I will be reading it many more times to come!

5 out of 5 stars Insightful, Honest, and Empowering   October 26, 2009
Shannon Young (Los Angeles, CA)
I found this book to be a welcome breath of fresh air, as well as downright honest. In reading this book, I felt like I was talking with an old friend. Sally's point of view and writing style are very understandable and easy to relate to. I find myself discussing parts of her book with my boyfriend (father of 3), and we both not only get a laugh, but often have those "AHA!!" moments.

I would definitely recommend this book for any woman who finds herself on the verge of stepmotherhood. An easy read, with great tools and insight.

5 out of 5 stars Great Read   September 29, 2009

I found this book very easy to read and it is possible to dip in and out of it to the parts most relevant to you (although I have to confess to reading it in one sitting). As well as keeping it light hearted and humorous, the author has brought an impressive level of honesty to the book offering her own anecdotes and those of her friends which more often than not both reminded me of similar situations and made me wish I had read the book (and learnt the tricks) earlier!

5 out of 5 stars read this first ...   September 14, 2009
Leslee L. Martin (Atlanta, Georgia)

... and THEN read Wednesday Martin's "Stepmonster" -- contrary to what the title suggests, this is professional advice from a professional woman and there is far more real support and you can try this at home advice in Stepmonster, and lots of good, fun, funny and sometimes sad anecdotes in both. I would definitely read this but wouldn't stop there. I think Ms. Martin's correct that some of the books trivialize the very real marginalization of the step-mother and denial doesn't help the new instant mom to identify, monitor, manage and talk productively about what is happening and what she's feeling, so ... read The Single Girl's Guide and share it with somebody you can talk to. Make it part of a trilogy by adding Izzy Rose's "The Package Deal" ... these three books work well together. It's all about balance.
