Amazon.com Review As an accomplished doctor of veterinary medicine, Martin Goldstein is well respected for his 25 years worth of experience in the field--experience he effectively utilizes in conjunction with his expertise in holistic medicine in his new book, The Nature of Animal Healing: The Path to Your Pet's Health, Happiness, and Longevity. Goldstein begins with a broad explanation of the origins of diseases in pets, then moves on to taking action against those diseases, not only offering thorough discussions of specific ailments--including cancer, allergies, and arthritis--and the holistic medicines available to help in the healing process, but also speaking to the "dubious legacy of vaccines" as well as the questionable quality of pet food. Finally, Goldstein turns his attention to the spiritual realm, addressing both the bonds that we have with our pets--and how those bonds aid in preventing and fighting our pets' health problems--as well as dealing with the death of a beloved pet. Goldstein's expert advice, inclusion of inspiring real-life cases, and thorough resource "compendium of holistic books, newsletters, Web sites, veterinarians, and associations" make this book a valuable addition to any pet owner's library. --Julia King
Product Description The Nature of Animal Healing is a groundbreaking, inspirational contribution to animal care. Dr. Martin Goldstein, one of the most successful and best-known holistic veterinarians in the country, offers here, for the first time, invaluable insights into how to give our pets a healthy, happy, and long life.
Dr. Goldstein--a graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine who runs a renowned clinic in South Salem, New York--begins by explaining his approach to alternative treatment: what it is, how it works, and why it's especially important that animals be treated holistically. Holistic pet care essentially revolves around the notion that the best way to cure an animal who is ill is to help the animal cure itself. We are not the true healers of our pets--they are. By treating the root of the problem instead of its symptoms, holistic medicine enables our pets to regain and maintain their own health.
In this comprehensive and accessible book, Dr. Goldstein not only shares his philosophy of how animals should--must--be treated, but also shows us exactly what to do. With moving and often entertaining examples from his years of practice, he offers prescriptive advice for the pet lover of every stripe: why we shouldn't feed our animals commercial pet food; why vaccines can actually do more harm than good; how acupuncture and homeopathic medicine can be used to help our pets; why pets need to experience a "healing crisis" in order to get well; and much, much more.
In his practice, Dr. Goldstein has had extraordinary success treating cancer and leukemia. Here, he begins to decipher the riddle of those killer diseases and shows us how best to treat them, as well as how to prevent them from occurring. Included is the exhaustive "Alphabet of Ailments," a list that tackles common afflictions one by one--the most useful guide ever published in a book on animal care.
Dr. Goldstein also turns to the spiritual realm, addressing how the emotional bonds we form with our animals have the power to provoke and cure disease. In his smart, helpful, and comforting style, he tells us how to deal with the inevitable death of a pet--both physically and psychologically.
Finally, there is an indispensable source guide: a complete listing of pet health-care centers, doctors, and products. So wherever you live, you will be able to act on the advice and recommendations you are sure to take to heart.
The Nature of Animal Healing is a revolutionary guide that no pet owner should be without.

Best book I ever read on this subject! March 16, 2010 Mara Fisher Excellent book. Filled with great information. Everyone who loves their pet needs to read it.
My German Shepherd Beat Cancer! March 14, 2010 Lisa Hall, Author (Alabama, USA) This book is a must-have for any pet owner to know all the health care options available for your furbaby. As with human medical care, options extend beyond traditional care. With proper diet and nutritional supplements, prescription medications may not be needed in some cases.
In 2002, my beloved German shepherd Brandy was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma, a deadly canine cancer. Her prognosis was one month with no treatment and 3 - 6 months with chemo. I didn't think it was fair to subject Brandy to chemo to buy her just a couple more months, so I sought other options. A friend told me about this book and I quickly ordered it. I was so impressed with Dr. Goldstein's message that I set up a phone consultation with him. He immediately started Brandy on a low carb diet (carbs feed cancer cells) and vascustatin and immkine to halt blood flow to the tumor, along with some other nutritional supplements. Within two or three months on this regimen, Brandy's tests showed no signs of cancer. A holistic practitioner added more supplements and took Brandy's diet a step further, putting her on raw organic meat instead of cooked meat. Brandy continued to remain healthy and cancer-free for another year and two months, until she tragically passed away from an unrelated cause. I will always be grateful to Dr. Goldstein for the extra time with my precious little girl.
The Nature of Animal Healing: The definitive holistic medicine guide to caring for your dog and cat February 14, 2010 Robert Franklin I have found this book an exceptional help in the healing of my very sick dog and has reinforced my belief in homeopathic and natural healing. I believe that this book should be in every pet owner's home as it is essential to our pet's health. I had to perservere with my process of natural healing to bring my beautiful girl back from near death, even with constant nagging to take her to a vet to get cortisoned etc(I cannot find an homeopathic vet in this state). I believe it is a 'leap of faith' and this book and its wonderful author have my undying gratitude. I am going to purchase another 4 at the moment to give to friends as I believe it will help them as well as their very important family(pets)member.
I must add that people that have quickly looked through it want to read it....but it is my 'health bible' and as I stated before I will have to buy them a copy or they can buy one themselves.
Thank you Martin Goldstein.
