Product Description
See inside every yoga pose! With clear, expert instruction and full-color, detailed anatomical drawings, Yoga Anatomy depicts the most common asanas to provide a deeper understanding of the structures and principles underlying each movement and of yoga itself.

From breathing to standing poses, see how each muscle is used, how slight alterations of a pose can enhance or reduce effectiveness, and how the spine, breathing, and body position are all fundamentally linked.

Whether you are just beginning your journey or have been practicing yoga for years, Yoga Anatomy will be an invaluable resource—one that allows you to see each movement in an entirely new light.

Author Leslie Kaminoff is a recognized expert and teacher in anatomy, breathing, and bodywork. He is the founder of The Breathing Project, New York City’s premiere yoga studio dedicated to the teaching of individualized, breath-centered yoga practice and therapy.

5 out of 5 stars Holy Moly I was breathing wrong my entire life!   November 7, 2009

I've gotten into the first chapter, but I'm not aware I was breathing through moving my stomach rather than moving my ribcage. This perpetuates bad posture, further difficulty breathing, and the strain of a body out of alignment. I've been a sloucher all my life, and I'm trying to break out of that and this book is helping. Worth every penny so far!

Great book for poses (asanas) and the muscles that are worked in each pose. Wonderful depictions of the human anatomy.

5 out of 5 stars Genuine Value   October 17, 2009

I have had plenty of A&P over the years as a nurse and a personal trainer. This book provides a whole new perspective on anatomy. It provides a very clear presentation of the information with the drawings, which makes it easy to comprehend and in turn retain. I highly recommend it if you are a student of yoga. Even if you have had A&P before, you will learn from it.

5 out of 5 stars Deep Wisdom, clearly presented   October 14, 2009

The opening chapter alone is worth the price of this book. Re-imagining ourselves as our cellular components, then comparing the processes of a cell to the processes of our bodies... wow! I had learned much about prana in my many years of practice, but this was my first taste of apana, sthira, and sukha! Truthfully, I find much less value in the detailed anatomical descriptions (very technical) and much more value in the author's philosophy, which is sprinkled throughout the book in chapter headings and side notes. A valuable addition to any yogi or yogini's library!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book   September 25, 2009

This is one of the best illustrated books on the subject that I have seen. My opinion has been seconded by a yoga teacher, massage therapist, and chiropractor. They are equally impressed. I use it help me perfect the poses, and identify where the aches and pains are coming from. Highly recommend.
