This book was very hard to read and yet hard to put down. Very motivating and eye-opening!

5 out of 5 stars Let Justice Roll down like rivers........   August 17, 2009
G. Stephen Goode (Bangkok, Thailand)
"Terrify No More" is an awful look at evil and the underbelly of the sex industry, particularly those who traffic girls as young as 5 years. Gary Haugen and Gregg Hunter do a great job of weaving a major rescue in Svay Pak, Cambodia that rescued 40 young girls with the other incredible, global works of the International justice Mission (IJM). This book shows how critically important the major components are in a successful intervention, from lawyers to police officers to judges to aftercare and counseling programs. It is also heart-wrenching to see the girls who they failed to rescue --- they are still there --being exploited and oppressed.

This book also shows how God also intervenes through the multiple, compassionate acts of those who love Him, their neighbors (these vulnerable ones) and themselves. You know that we can make a difference in human trafficking and slavery but all of us will have to have our eyes and ears opened and see what our part is to play. This book will help you to see more graphically than most books will how you can be involved. Now is the time to engage and to hear the cries of those who suffer, to let our hearts be broken with the things that break the heart of God and simply ask "how do you want me to be involved?" You will hear.... You will get an answer.

5 out of 5 stars Terrify No More is a MUST READ!   December 16, 2008

I heard about Gary Haugen when I saw a 20/20 episode years ago on child trafficking and prostitution. I was disgusted by seeing children as young as 7 years old negotiating a price for sex. Then in the early 2000s I came upon Gary Haugen again when I did research for grad school and I purchased "Terrify No More." It is a beautifully written book describing the undercover mission of his brave staff and supportive law enforcement who risked their lives to save children from the traffickers, pimps and sex tourists who prey on them. I couldn't put the book down--it was like a movie. I was riveted by the strategies and the action, sick that in this lifetime there is still not enough attention on human trafficking and child prostitution, that perpetrators are often unpunished, and that countries are not supporting legislation to prosecute the people behind the sex trade. Yet, I am extremely grateful that there are people like Gary Haugen and his staff whose mission is to protect our children no matter how dangerous the situation may be. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who thinks that they are not affected by the victimization of children.

5 out of 5 stars Sensitivity, Combined With a Special Smack-Down   October 19, 2008

I suppose people might find a title such as that mine, at the least, inappropriate. But to the people that suffer injustices, such as the ones mentioned in this book, it is highly appropriate. "Terrify No More" is the story of men on a mission, with the help needed to pull off what seemed to be impossible. To rescue little Cambodian girls who know of life in these Cambodian brothels, to tell the story is a great importance.

I can't imagine the injustice these girls had to have felt. A lot of them were promised work if they moved away from their families. They were promised work making noodles, or work in a textile place. But once they took the ride, and arrived to that place of work, they realized that not only were they in for a world of hurt, but humiliation that could last a lifetime. And the pimps that own these places would tell them that wearing a smile, and having sex with strangers was the life they better get used to, or else! And when you think of young girls, teenagers might come to mind. But some of the girls are as young as five. That's sick!

The story of International Justice Mission is nothing short of amazing, as you learn about these everyday people with the skills to rescue these young girls. And while it is simply a job to them, they are nothing short of heroes in the eyes of these little girls. These workers who feel God has called them to shut down the trashy dumps that these girls call home, and to do something better for them.

When you are faced with what you or I might call a "hopeless situation," I'd encourage you to read the likes of these burdens! Because I'm telling you, I may have lost jobs, I may have even been arrested for something petty, but it just doesn't compare to what these girls went through. What makes it sad is that it still goes on. Some girls from a certain place might get rescued, but they are still out there.

But certain people have gotten justice, and that's awesome! You wouldn't wish life like this on any kind of enemy, no way. Yeah, I'd say you would have to have a certain sensitivity to deal with something like this. And then to get old-school, you'd want to put a smack down on the bad guys that leave a message to never forget!!

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment   September 6, 2007

This book is a great disappointment. Buying this book I thought to obtain some serious information on the subject. I didn't expect to buy some superficial nonsence of a local U.S. sect. To European standards Gary Haugen's prostelitizing is appalling obscene and self serving and in this IJM is to be considered a dangerous sect. Don't buy this book.
