| Customer Reviews: Very informative and insightful. April 15, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book does a wonderful job at covering the history of guide dogs. Obviously your interest in the subject must be piqued prior to picking up this volume as the reading of the history in the beginnig can be somewhat dry. The remaining portion details the author's story as she enters the arena of guide dog training after already having been an experienced dog trainer, only to learn that obedience training and teaching a dog to think and work out problems on its own institute diametrically opposed methodoligies. Margaret Gibbs writes this work from an insiders point of veiw. The school not only accepts her presents but purposes to give her every opportunity to experience the training and learning evironment to its fullest, which affords her an ability to share this heretofore hidden world of seeing eye dogs like I have not seen in any other work. This book should probably have a 5 star rating as it is in a class of its own. The writing is superb and the story is brought together with a good deal of finesse. This is the premier book to read for anyone with an interest in the mobility of blind persons.
