Product Description
This is the user-friendly guide to the DASH diet. Proven to lower blood pressure and cholesterol without medication, it was developed in research sponsored by US National Institutes of Health, entitled, the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). Each new research study continues to prove the benefits of the DASH Diet. The DASH diet is recommended by the U.S. treatment guidelines for hypertension. The 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans advocate this eating plan for everyone. And the DASH diet forms the basis for the USDA MyPyramid. It is an eating plan that is rich in fruits, vegetables, low fat or nonfat dairy, is low in sodium, and includes lean meats, fish and poultry, grains, nuts and beans. The DASH diet helps lower cholesterol and supports healthy weight loss. It is flexible enough to meet the lifestyle and food preferences of most people. However, many people have found it difficult to follow the DASH diet. This is the user-friendly book, designed to make it easy to DASH. It was written by a dietitian who is experienced in helping people make sustainable changes in how they eat. Learn how to follow the DASH diet in your real life. Accommodate DASH even when eating on-the-run. Add more vegetables into your diet, even if you think you hate vegetables. Learn how to manage salt intake. Makeover your kitchen to simplify following DASH. Lose weight with the DASH diet. The book has 28 days of meal plans (with adjustments for 1200, 1600, and 2000 calorie plans), and DASH-friendly recipes. And this is the complete healthy lifestyle plan for hypertension. It includes the healthy weight loss and exercise that will lower blood pressure. Make your own personal DASH Diet Action Plan, with the specific steps to fit the DASH diet into your daily routine. Reach your goal to lower blood pressure or just having a healthier lifestyle. Purchasing this book is your first step in improving your health for the long run.

The DASH Diet Action Plan: Based on the National Institutes of Health Research: Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension Just started the plan. I was looking for something to help get me off high blood pressure pills. This seems like a logical, managable approach.

4 out of 5 stars Good information, but why should we pay twice?   August 2, 2009

It's good to see our federal tax dollars used for research that is useful. However, if my tax dollars are used to support this type of research, why do I have to pay for that information? I'm going to purchase the book, but I'm having a problem with paying for information that my tax dollars supported initially. Again, this information should be available for free.

4 out of 5 stars Review of DASH DIET ACTION PLAN   June 23, 2009

This book is very helpful for me in managing my diet. I am taking blood pressure medication and I will use the tools in this book as an aide in keeping my blood pressure down. I only wish it had a few more recipes. It has very helpful planning tools.

5 out of 5 stars DASHing for My Health   May 7, 2009

While the book imparts important and valuable information regarding dietary steps we can take to lower blood pressure, what really sold me on this book was the menu plans that show portion sizes for different calories levels. This has always been a challenge for me because while I know what I'm supposed to taking in calorie-wise, how do I adjust a menu for what my husband needs? This book solved that for me easily. The meals are satisfying and incorporate enough variety to keep me from getting bored. The recipes are very tasty and easy to prepare, even when time is short. I am now in the fourth week of the DASH and already I have watched my blood pressure begin decreasing steadily. Now that I know what I should be eating and how much of it, it's much easier for me to vary the menus if I choose to. It's one of the easiest diets I have ever found, and more than that, it's a good lifestyle of eating that I can stick to.

This book really is informative. Gives suggestions to help stay on track that make sense. Is written in a way that understands most people that find themselves actually in need of this book are trying to overcome some bad eating habits. There are some recipes in this book, I wish there had been a few more.
