Product Description Continually praised for its reader-friendly coverage of complex topics, this trusted resource provides fundamental, step-by-step guidance for assessing and caring for new mothers, newborns, and families. It carefully integrates the importance of understanding family, culture, client teaching, communication, and critical thinking all into the overall continuum of nursing care. The updated 4th edition integrates evidence-based practice where appropriate and includes the latest information on women's health and fetal monitoring. * Multicultural considerations and changing family structures integrated throughout provide a thorough understanding of the needs, values, customs, and beliefs of clients from different backgrounds. * Communication Cues provide hints and techniques for interpreting client and family statements and behaviors. * Therapeutic Communication boxes use actual client-nurse dialogues to illustrate interactions. * Procedure Guides outline common procedures with rationales for each step. * Critical thinking questions, complete with answers and rationales, present real life clinical situations and challenge students to determine what to do and why. * Critical-to-Remember boxes highlight vital concerns such as danger signs in pregnancy, behaviors associated with substance abuse, and facts about HIV. * Drug Guides outline indications, adverse reactions, and nursing considerations for the most commonly used medications.

Great Study Guide! March 16, 2009 Martha M. Shaw Other publishers should take a look at this study guide. It's very in depth, covers almost every topic discussed in the book. When I was unable to read all the material, I read the answers to the questions at the end of each chapter. It helped me focus in what really mattered. My grades improved a letter grade after using this study guide. I would consider this guide mandatory to survive the course.
