5 out of 5 stars Wish I had known about this book when it was first published!   September 7, 2010

The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health

My Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008. After reading this book I am convinced that he would still be alive if we had been armed with this knowledge when he was first diagnosed. His doctors told him to eat a lot of protein. He was not told about the benefits of eating a plant-based (vegan) low protein diet.

He was barbarically given chemo-therapy and radiation after doctors assured him it would increase his survival chances. He suffered in a lot of pain. His doctor recommended and performed an operation to strengthen his hip so that he could walk after the chemo & radiation destroyed his body. (talk about irresponsible medicine) He died in 2009.

Dad was always a "steak & potato" kind of guy and an ex-smoker for over 15 years, but at least having the truth in our hands we could have saved him. I resent the irresponsibility of much of the medical community in this country. I believe as many do that the health care system in this country is severely broken. It's time for a major overhall. Read this book- it will change your life for the better.

5 out of 5 stars Life Changing in Every Way!   August 29, 2010

A couple of years ago I had an emergency appendectomy. Two months ago, I had my gallbladder taken out. My doctor put me on an all plant based diet and told me to never eat red meat again if I could help it. I realized I have had digestive issues my entire life and now I feel so much better. I have not become totally vegan as I cannot bring myself to give up dairy entirely. However, as a certified junk food junkie who ate chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner since her teens, I crave fresh cut up cucumbers and tomatoes over anything else I could have in the fridge. I eat spinach like I've never had it before and I am learning to "taste" other fruits and vegetables and give them a chance. I have not eaten anything good for me in many years and now after two months, my digestive system is wonderful. I don't wake up bloated and nauseated and I don't hurt after every meal. You can eat all you want all day long and never be hungry and as long as it is primarily or wholly plant based, you will feel and act younger. I still eat chocolate but I strive to make it dark chocolate and I don't eat it in the quantities I did before. I have cut a lot of dairy out of my life but I don't see myself being able to cut it entirely out. I did switch from whole to skim milk and I now cook with soy milk.

5 out of 5 stars A must read!   August 25, 2010

This book is a must read for the information about the relationship of the food we consume to the diseases that are so prevalent in our society. Everything is well documented and written in a style for the lay-person to understand. I found it life-changing as I have completely revamped my whole way of eating.

1 out of 5 stars Real china study says nothing about it   August 21, 2010

If you actually stop and critically analyze and compare this nonsense to the real China Study paper that was peer reviewed and POORLY copied into this book you'll see that many of these "findings" are not statistically significant...meaning for all we know it was probably random chance.

For instance, one finding found that cigarettes actually increase protective factors against cancer.

Don't believe me go to your local university and look it up yourself.
