Product Description At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Overseas Kindle Very Expensive for Newspaper Readers November 23, 2009 Tomás (Orchard Park, New York United States) If you like to read newspapers overseas, think twice before buying the Kindle for its international downloading ability:
My new Kindle recently arrived. While I am satisfied with the device in most respects, I am deeply disappointed in one area.
I'm out of the US on trips about a month a year. I had bought my Kindle, international version, hoping to subscribe to a newspaper I like each time I go on a trip. I was disappointed to discover that it would cost about $2.00 just to download each issue, (or a new book for that matter), each day I was overseas.
Needless to say, I will not be paying an additional $2.00 for each issue of a newspaper in addition to the monthly Amazon subscription price. Either I'll find a hard copy of the newspaper somewhere or I'll just do without. I'm not that much of a news junkie. There's always CNN for breaking news stories.
Obviously I can put enough books on my Kindle before I leave the US so I don't have to download books overseas very often anyhow.
Why is Amazon was making it so unattractive for US residents to use their Kindles overseas. Or did I read the fine print on the website wrong?
Sincerely,
Stranded Overseas without Reasonable Kindle Whispernet Access.
Kindle Wireless Reading November 23, 2009 Laureen Miller (Ohio) I absolutely love my Kindle. I wasn't sure about the tactile feel of it, nothing like holding a book in your hand. I got over that quickly and can't put it down. If you are someone who needs to hold the book in your hand, this is not for you. I have recommended it to everyone. Hoping that eventually you can share kindle books among kindle users. A big plus in my opinion, you don't have to find shelf space for all of your books. I personally don't have room for all that I read and buy.
My love of reading has been re-Kindled! November 23, 2009 J. L. Evans (Pittsburgh, PA) I adore my Kindle. I bought it earlier this summer and it's been a true joy to use. I take public transportation to work and travel often and it's been a true blessing for those commutes. I am reading faster and am far less distracted than with a tradidional book. I feel like it's truly enrished my life! I lent it to my husband who attempted to steal it from me, and during that week I read a "real" book which felt really awkward! I've grown accoustomed to this format. I have tried the Sony E-Reader and I was not impressed at all. It's a fine device but I didn't like the interface or set up at all.
There has been a wonderful selection of free books available as well as low cost choices. I've spent around $50 and have over a hundred books downloaded. I consider that a great rate of return on my investment for the product right there.
The new Kindle for PC software has been wonderful, as well. I'm so pleased with the entire Kindle family and look forward to more offerings in the future.
I am stopped often by people asking what it is, how I like it and always have the same answer -- "It's awesome and money well spent."
I have no complaints on the format or functionality, however I do wish there was a "lending" option between Kindle users. I'm hoping this is something that can be introduced at a later date.
Thanks Amazon for making such a wonderful product.
Need for Speed? No, need for other languages!! ;-) November 23, 2009 Angel Luis Fernández (Oviedo, Asturias - SPAIN) Perhaps it would be greater if many more other different languages were present in the shop... In my case spanish.... I am going to write a lot of new spanish books to solve it ;-)
The Kindle is GREAT November 23, 2009 Stacey N. Crank My husband bought me my Kindle for my B-day. I had never heard of it before and it was the perfect gift for me. The screen is so easy to read and you can read it for hours without hurting your eyes. I like it because my child can no longer pull out my page holder, it keeps the place your at after you turn it off and she doesn't know how to turn it on just yet!
It's easy to carry around and it's light weight which I enjoy. I can carry it any where and it fits in my purse (and I don't have a big purse.)
If you're not a book collector this device is perfect for any Reader. I've also looked at the Barnes & Noble Nook, it's more like an Iphone than an actual book. If you just want something you can read on, the Kindle is the perfect thing for you! I love it!
