A very nice pan with a lesser quality cover March 2, 2010 R. Rico (RI USA) I bought this pan based on reviews at Amazon.com. I had already purchased the Cuisinart Multicald Pro 8" and 10" skillets and love them. I frequently saute large amounts of food and love to make things like osso buco where this pan comes in very handy. The pan itself is very solidly built and in my opinion of exceptional quality for the price. It definitely compares to the allclad counterpart which is 3 times the price.
My only gripe is with the cover for this pan (and I assume all covers from this line). It seems flimsy compared to the pan itself and I'm not a fan of the polished stainless as it seems almost impossible to remove fingerprints sand smudges. IMO, this would work much better if it was of a brushed finish, similar to the sides of the pans. The cover does not fit very snugly on the pan either. To the point where simmering sauce was making it's way onto the stove with the cover on.
Other than that, I truly believe the multicald pro line is very similar to the allclad pans at a fraction of the price.
Depth and size perfect for family meals. November 13, 2009 Ann B. (SE Washington State) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The size and depth is perfect for stove top or oven casseroles/stir-fry to feed a large family or for plenty of leftovers. Plenty of pan room to fry up to four hot sandwiches/French bread, 6 to 8 or more burgers, pancakes, fry an entire chicken with room to spare, etc.
The long handle is nice and the helper handle is a big help to maneuver a large fully loaded pan. Measure your oven to make sure this long handled pan will fit in your oven if you need it to. Overall 23" (handle to handle). Pan 12.5" x 3.25" 5.5 quarts.
Remember to get a splatter screen 13 inch to compliment your purchase of this fine pan and cover. I see new styles with four 'feet' formed in the rim, and a style with tri-feet extension of the handle under the screen.
Poor-fitting lid - generally poor quality August 3, 2009 KC (Chicago, IL United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was very much looking forward to this saute pan and was disappointed in its quality. First, the lid did not fit well at all. I am not sure if the lid was warped, or the pan, but either way there were large gaps and the lid slid around without "sitting" right.
Second, the quality did not seem on par with other Cuisinart Multiclad offerings. I have the 1.5 and 3 quart saucepans and couldn't be happier with them. The saute pan, in comparison, seemed to have a less-polished interior and a lighter, less-sturdy build.
As a result, I am, sadly, returning this saute pan and saving my pennies for an All-Clad.
Multiclad Pro 5 1/2 Qt saute pan May 15, 2009 Maureen (New Hampshire) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I am very happy with the Multiclad Pro cookware in general. This is a heavy pan (to be expected due to its size) but if you need a large saute pan this is a great size - nice and deep. The rolled edge makes pouring very neat (it just takes 2 hands for me until most of the extra weight is removed - thank God for the helper handle, a wonderful feature). It heats quickly and cleans easily but, as mentioned in other reviews, it does discolor on the bottoms - interior turns blueish, exterior turns brownish from the application of heat (this is not an issue for me as I was looking for cooking ability not asthetics.)
One big beef I have is that the bottom is NOT flat and it wobbles on my glass top range. I have no doubt that this effects the even-ness of the cooking. We are planning a move and I am switching to a gas range otherwise I would have returned it and tried another one. (not a different brand)
I am an advid, experienced cook making most foods from scratch and I would recommend this product just be aware of some of it's limitations.
I do highly recommend the Multiclad Pro line - it is a great product at a great price especially when compared to other "professional" quality cookware.
ALL THE BLING FOR A LOT LESS $$$ March 22, 2009 Norton South, (Tater State) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is high-quality fully-clad professional stainless cookware at a fraction of the cost of All-Clad. The lightly brushed exterior is beautiful, and the pans have a great feel to them - solid, but not too heavy. I especially like the no-drip pouring rims and the feel of the handles. I'd recommend this line to anyone looking for high-end stainless, but does not want to spend top dollar just for a name.
