Product Description
An essential item in any kitchen, Tramontina’s Gourmet 6.5 Quart Covered Cassrole in a vibrant red porcelain enamel finish is the perfect vessel for slow cooking soups and stews, braising meats, baking and even frying. The heavy-gauge cast iron vessel provides even heat distribution. The vessel's interior is coated with a light beige smooth porcelain enamel finish, so no seasoning is required and the pan is immediately ready for use.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful dutch oven.   November 22, 2009

Very heavy, but extremely well made. If it cooks half as good as it looks, it should be superb.

5 out of 5 stars Tramontina 6.5 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven   November 22, 2009
JoJo (CT)
I have shopped at Amazon for years and have been very satisfied with most of my purchases, this is the first time I was so impressed that I had to write a review. We have wanted a cast iron/enamel interior dutch oven for quite some time. I bought a Martha Stewart at Macys and returned it immediately due to a defect in the enamel interior. We decided to try this Tramontina and love it. I made Chicken Catchatori tonight and it was amazing. Tomorrow we're making beef stew and the next night......

4 out of 5 stars Very tasty Carbonnades a la flamande   November 20, 2009
K. Macke (California)
I've used this Dutch oven once so far, and it did everything I expected. I prepared "carbonnades a la flamande", a Belgian stew based on beef, onions, and beer. The browning of the meat on the stove top worked well, and then the stew cooked in the oven for 1.5 hours and came out very tasty indeed. The casserole also cleaned up very easily afterwards, another big plus. (I did make sure to wash it right away though, before things could dry on too much.) So after one trial, I'm pretty happy with this item.

3 out of 5 stars Price value good, but you can see why people LOVE Le Creuset.   November 19, 2009

The price can't be beat! $45 with free shipping is a great value regardless of what I write in this review. I was excited to open the box, and loved the color immediately! I continued to be impressed by the weight of the pot. But after completely un packing, I placed the lid on the pot, and looked at my wife and said, this is why a Le Creuset is $245, and this was only $45. The lid does not seal tightly, and you need to rotate the lid to find the position where it seals best, though it's still not 100%, closer to 90%.
Would I buy it again? Probably. Would I have bought it in a store, where the faults were clear before making the decision to purchase? Probably not. I just cannot justify the $200+ dollars for the "real deal".
I hope this helpful.

2 out of 5 stars Low quality, have some breakdown pitting of the chalky white enamel.   November 16, 2009

It occurred some breakdown pitting of the chalky white enamel when it arrived. I'm afraid that it may have been exposed and rusted later. Also the lid does not really fit for the Casserole.
