Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Linda returns to her Broadway roots on this release. The 12 tracks span roughly the last 50 years in cinema, from Mancini's "Charade," the title tune of the 1963 movie starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, to "Falling Slowly," the Academy Award winner from Once, the 2007 Irish musical film. The originals may be familiar and beloved, but Eder and her band dramatically reworked the arrangements, rendering the songs in an intimate, fireside style. Other highlights include an aching version of Yvonne Elliman's 1977 disco hit "If I Can't Have You," from Saturday Night Fever and a faithful rendition of "Valley of the Dolls," the theme of the 1968 flick that Dionne Warwick turned into a No. 2 pop hit.

Album Description
2009 release from the Pop vocalist. Soundtrack finds Linda Eder musically 'going to the movies' with a carefully selected set of songs from films that span five decades. The originals may be familiar and beloved, but Eder and her band reworked them, rendering the songs in an intimate, fireside style. ''We did most of the music in a jazzy pop version . . . we wanted to find arrangements that were a little different and worked for my voice.'' Linda is one of America's premier singers of Pop standards and Broadway tunes, so the former Star Search winner and star of the long running hit musical Jekyll And Hyde is perfectly suited to tackle these well known movie songs and make them her own.

3 out of 5 stars Sadly Forgettable   March 1, 2010
Penn Carter (Los Angeles)
I've been in awe of Linda Eder's amazing voice since hearing the original "Jekyll & Hyde" concept album back in 1990. 20 years later her voice still brings chills but this collection really fails to showcase that instrument. Personally, I think the song selection is the problem. There are thousands of soundtrack songs she could have chosen; these just really don't seem like the best she and her producers could have settled on. I'm sure she prefers the songs from the 70s and 80s that she grew up with, but even so there are much better songs that her vocals would really compliment. How about "Coming Around Again" or "Nobody Does It Better" or "Through The Eyes Of Love (Theme from ICE CASTLES)" which she recorded as a demo in the 80s? And she would have done an amazing up-tempo version of "Windmills Of Your Mind."

As far as the songs she did record here, only "I Will Wait For You" and "Charade" make much of an impression with their arrangements. "Valley Of The Dolls" is lovely but I'm not a huge fan of the song and by that point on the CD she really needed something more upbeat to keep listeners awake. So many weepy, woe-is-me tracks with maudlin arrangements - and I say that as someone who loves weepy, woe-is-me songs. And can we please have a moratorium on any more covers of Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do"? That song has been overplayed to death. Even Linda can't breathe life into it.

Ultimately, the CD isn't bad by any means - just very forgettable, which is sad for someone as talented as Linda. But I hope it's madly successful so we can look forward to future releases from her.

3 out of 5 stars Sounds ok, like she phoned it in   February 28, 2010
Robert F. Atkinson (Atkinson, NH USA)
The picture says it all, All dolled up and nothing worth doing.
My wife and I have gone to Linda Eder's concerts twice, I bought ALL her cd's and she has only dissapointed us recently. (First cd was a rough start)
Lacks energy, seems that her ex was a far better judge of what Linda needed for songs to showcase her fabulous talent. Left to her own choices, she picks songs that are not up to all that she can achieve. She will always be an incredible talent, but she needs works that showcase her skills. Instead of being exceptional, she seems to be striving to be one of the many, a beautiful mediocre singer.

3 out of 5 stars Soundtrack by Linda Eder   January 26, 2010
Chatham H. Forbes Sr. (Los Gatos, CA United States)
Linda is one of the very best female singers. Her voice is beautiful, strong, and versatile. When she takes full advantage of that instrument, she is on a par with Streisand. But on Soundtrack she gets immersed in throaty Broadway gymnastics that detract from her extraordinary gifts. I suspect that this is in order to be au courant in the present day singing style, but that us not what God made Linda. I am one of her most devoted admirers. She is a blessing in the entertainment world.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing "Linda" about this   January 14, 2010
Karl Wieman (Locust Valley, NY USA)
I am a big fan of Linda Eder and have all of her previous CDs, but I was very disappointed with Soundtrack. Ignoring the song selection, Linda added nothing "personal" to any of her interpretations; there was nothing "Linda-ish" that set them apart from the original artists' versions.

I was also not a fan of the minimal instrumentation of the songs.

While she raves about how quickly this album came together, it felt more like she was contractually obligated to release an album under a deadline. And Soundtrack was the best she could come up with.

We've come to expect better.

5 out of 5 stars linda fabulous as usual   December 8, 2009
J. Miller (cottageville, sc)
this is a fabulous cd, and of course Linda Eder's voice is to me one that cannot be matched. This as is all her cds well worth the purchase.
