Very dissapointed November 16, 2009 Spin Gal (Atlanta, GA) Got this for home brewing, and it does bring liquid up to a boil very quickly. However, it uses the old style tank connection, so we had to spend $60 on a new propane tank. Even more aggravating is that there is very little heat control. Trying to maintain a 160-degree temp for steeping for a period of time is almost impossible. The day after I used it I saw Target was running an ad for one with a much better temp gauge.
Great little burner November 10, 2009 D. Chapman (New York) I would have given this a 5 star review, except that it took about 3 hours to burn off all the paint fumes from the burner during a test boil. That basically killed about 1/4 of my tank of propane and smelled terrible. Other than that, it is a powerful, efficient and FUN alternative to the grill or stove top. I used it twice already to make a couple batches of 6-gallon beer, and it worked great! Went from steeping at 160`F to a rolling boil in under 10 minutes. Highly recommended.
Good value for the money November 4, 2009 David N. Westfall I bought three of these and think that they are a good value for the money. Heavier duty than some sold for the same price or more.
Great Purchase October 21, 2009 Grandmother (Maryland) My husband is more than happy with this burner. The homemade pot he was given as a gift fits nicely on the burner.
Awesome wok cooker! October 19, 2009 N. Stevens (Harker Heights, TX) I got this burner primarily to cook with my 26" round bottom carbonized steel wok (one of those inexpensive ones you find at every Asian grocery store) and it does not disappoint. It is loud; kind of like those burners on a hot air balloon, but that only adds to the experience of power (insert Tim Taylor grunts)! Using it definitely gives you that taste the Chinese call the "breath of the wok"; that barely singed edges of the veggies that you usually can only get going to a restaurant with a monster burner under their wok.
I just hook it up to my tank under my gas grill and crank up them BTU's. Before buying it I wondered if it would run my tank down really fast, but it is so hot I only have to run it for 2-5 minutes and I am done.
I have not used it for anything else yet, but if I never do, I will still be glad I bought this thing.
