Eight down and ? to go!!! February 26, 2010 Nancy Minor (Portland, OR) I am completely sold on the rat zapper ultra. The first week I had no luck with peanut butter, but then switched to the sunflower meats that I feed the birds and which had attracted the rats in the first place. Two weeks later, I've dispatched eight rats. I fear there are more, but feel so confident in this product that I am convinced that eventually I'll get them all. I wear rubber gloves to mask human scent and wipe out the trap after each rat. Thank you for inventing this!
Kills rats dead FAST! February 24, 2010 S. Condray (2nd star to the right) Over the holidays a rat came to visit. Seeing as we don't leave food out it was disappointed and decided to punish me by eating my silicone spatulas... all of them! Now, these were not the cheap discount store brand, no... the rat didn't like those (he took a few bites but like Goldilocks he decided that the expensive ones were just right). He ate the overpriced expensive ones I had just purchased a month before... my lovely spatulas gnawed to bits.
Furious at my roommates and assuming they had stuck them down the garbage disposal on high in some attempt to drive me mad I confronted them... "WHO DID THIS?! THEY WILL NOW SUFFER MY FULL WRATH!!" (ok, maybe it was more like, "um... hey, do you know what happened to my spatulas?")
We discovered telltale signs of rat and my roommate purchased cute little traps that promised to be humane. I washed all my utensils in bleach, bought more spatulas and hoped for the best.
The menace returned, leaving a trail of gnawed spatulas yet again.
On my trusty iPhone I went to my Amazon app and typed in rat killer, read the reviews and found this wonderful killing machine. No humane traps this time, no kill-free happiness... this was war and I wanted this beast dead!
Overnight express from Amazon rocks!! Highly recommend Amazon prime for this if nothing else.
Rat Zapper arrived, went out and bought 4xC batteries before realizing it takes 4 x D batteries... Rat gained a momentary reprieve.
Popped in batteries (easy as can be)
Filled a plastic bottle cap with organic peanut butter as bait (figured even rats deserve a decent last meal... considered using the remnants of my spatula but wasn't in THAT good of a mood).
Stuck it on the counter and turned it on. It says it kills them quickly and that I like. I find glue traps to be effective but they leave them alive far too long... that's torture and while I hate them, I do NOT support them suffering. This thing has some sort of humane killing rating. (really tempted to find someone to stick their hand inside I must admit... where is my little brother when I need him)
Went to bed and visions of fried rat danced in my head.
Awoke super early and ran downstairs to gloat... alas... no dead rat. *sigh*
Went to school and the roommates all left, each disappointed to find no catch.
Came back for lunch and to my delight found one giant, fried, spatula-eating, dead monster waiting to be thrown out with the rest of the trash.
No mess. No hassle. Just dead vermin, fast!
It's now sitting under my kitchen sink baited and set for the next monster who crawls up the pipes from my 1870's basement. Die disease carrying monsters DIE!
It kills kills kills February 23, 2010 Rovonna S. Sampson (philadelphia, pa) I suggest this thing for anyone having mice or rat trouble, they are tearin down a house a couple of doors down and the mice were traveling in my house..... it has caught about twenty lil mice in like five days....and they are totally out of site now. I didnt even know that there were so many in my home. I would see them in the kitchen at night. I am so attached to this product i reccommended it to everyone i know. Get it if you sre thinkin about it because you will be glad that you listened.
It works...period. February 16, 2010 N. Shah Caught a rat in my basement, and I couldn't be happier with the way it works. Very simple operation, used thee bait provided, easy cleanup. What more can you ask for?
Honey, what are you making? It smells delicious! February 5, 2010 Josh from Boston (Boston, MA) Kidding, of course. there is no smell when one of those critters gets it...
I bought my zapper for a mouse problem - and as previous reviewers have stated, it works like a charm. I'm using a handful of standard cat food for bait. I placed the zapper against the wall where we were seeing activity (mice have poor vision and generally stay close to walls when moving around) and within two nights I had myself a mouse. Easy to dispose of, clean and efficient.
I'm not sure about the whole claim of "humane killing" with any product that kills, but I have to assume that getting electrocuted quickly is less painful than a trap snapping your spine, or breaking your leg, etc. So, in that sense, I guess it is more humane than other traps. MUCH better than poisons as well, which are effective, but leave the mice to die in tight spaces you can't get to - now THAT stinks.
Bottom line, it does what it says it does, and without a lot of fuss. By far the best small critter exterminator that I've seen.
