5 out of 5 stars Best Grill I've Ever Owned...   November 25, 2009

...no joke - and we grill a lot.
It is steel, so you will have to take care of it, like you would your cast iron skillet (those of you who don't use one, maybe this isn't the grill for you).
Season it a few times and keep it covered in bad weather and she's sweet.
Others on here are right though, you can definitely find it cheaper.
Of course you can pick it apart just like the $2,500 stainless monsters, but for the money you can't go wrong with this combo.

My husband and I searched and searched for a grill that could do both charcoal and gas. I found this one on Amazon. I love the fact that it offers a smoking option. The burners on the gas side fire up easily and on the charcoal side you can raise and lower the rack you put the charcoal on. It's heavy enough that it hasn't once tipped over from strong winds.(I've had that problem with other grills I've had.) I also like the fact that the gas and the charcoal are completely separate. You can smoke meat on the charcoal side while you are cooking on the gas side. I've had the grill for almost a year and it still works great!

On the con side...
-It rusts easily, even with putting vegetable oil on the surfaces like it directs you too. You have to clean out the charcoal ashes after every use and it's not the easiest to clean. The rack that holds the charcoal doesn't come off the rack that catches the ashes, so rust is bound to form. You will definitely need the cover, unless you plan on storing it inside out of the elements when not in use. A heads up on the cover...although it fits the grill perfectly, it doesn't have elastic on the bottom to stop it from coming off in the wind. We used a couple bungee cords to hold the cover on and that is working great.

-The grease drip pan on the gas side doesn't fully come off making that difficult to clean as well.

Even despite it's cons, I would recommend this grill. It serves it's purpose for the quickness of gas, but also the flavor of charcoal.

4 out of 5 stars Sweet choice!   August 9, 2009

Ive had my Duo for several months now. Cooked on a weber previously.
Cant beat it when you're short on time, you can use the propane side. When you have the time and want the sweet smell of smoke you have the smoker side. It dont get much better than that. Having alot of fun grilling or smoking different dishes using either or both sides. Food comes out great. All Im missing is my own "Grill'n" program on TV. Look out Tyler! If you love to grill, the Char-Griller Duo is one that you definitely want to consider.

4 out of 5 stars Got a GREAT buy on an excellent grill   July 15, 2009

Went to a cousin's house on the 4th of this year (2009) and he had this beauty on his deck. The unique design of the "double barrels" captured my attention. I was also impressed at the amount of food he could grill at one time. Slabs and slabs of ribs on the charcoal side, chicken and franks on the gas.

The cousin tells me that he bought the unit at Kroger in town for $249.99. So while talking to him on the phone a couple of days ago (7/12), I pull into a local Kroger parking lot here in west metro Atlanta and they had one on display out front. I go inside and they had a stack of about 9 in boxes on clearance for $179.99 - absolute Deal of the Century. So I bought the Duo, and picked up the custom cover at Lowes down the street for $39.99. I haven't put it together yet, but am looking forward to several years of grilling and smoking bliss. A huge step up from the 10 yr old 18 1/2 inch Weber charcoal egg!

UPDATE 7/24 - Cooked on the charcoal side a few days ago. Excellent! Having an adjustable charcoal rack is terrific - and with proper charcoal placement and distribution, you can get decent smoking even without the added SFB!

Don't see using the gas side much, except for rare larger gatherings where food for a couple dozen is necessary. The attached side burner is perfect for starting the Weber charcoal chimney, which I HIGHLY recommend.

A slightly higher gauge of steel for the grill barrels would be a good improvement, but what's used is decent. I also wish they'd used brass main burners for better longevity. The side burner is cast brass.

Oh, if anyone needs the "8080" custom Duo cover just send an email and I'll hook U up with one at cost ($39.99 + GA tax + basic parcel shipping). Amazon, and the prices on Ebay, up to $110, are ridiculous. And I don't see them on the accessory list at the Chargriller site anymore.

5 out of 5 stars Best of Both Worlds!   June 24, 2009

I've had the grill now for 3 months, and it has been absolutely amazing; however, I'd suggest shopping around (the Amazon price was $100 more than I paid for it and $60 more than I paid for the side fire box). This grill seriously does it all. It was easy to assemble; it took my wife and I 90 minutes or so (and we had a movie on, so a focused couple could easily do it in half that time). Don't fret when the entire thing is oily; that's a vegetable oil coating for protection. It has an amazing amount of cooking space, and heats very evenly. It's nice that the charcoal height is even adjustable while grilling (though oven mitts recommended to raise/lower the charcoal height). This grill has made cooking so easy during the week (gas side), and so enjoyable on the weekends (charcoal side). I've cooked for 30 people with this grill in half the time of my old one. Seriously, a fantastic product at an amazing price.

Pros
--Option of either charcoal or gas, or both
--Side burner for lighting charcoal chimney (or preparing side dishes)
--Optional side fire box smokes a damn good brisket
--Relatively easy to assemble
--Quality made

Cons
--Can get heavy to move around (especially with side fire box attached)
--Expensive on Amazon. Shop around.

All in all, the most amazing grill I've ever owned. Seriously consider this when weighing your grill options.
