Amazon.com Product Description A quick messaging phone boasting a full keyboard for text messaging beneath its vibrant colors, the LG Xenon for AT&T also offers a large touchscreen display with a customizable and intuitive user interface. The phone can quickly download video, music and more over AT&T's lightning quick HSPDA 3G network. Additionally, with AT&T's 3G network, you can listen to a conference call on a headset while sending and receiving e-mail attachments, picture messages or Web pages at the same time. This GPS-enabled phone can access the AT&T Navigator service for turn-by-turn directions as well as its Video Share serve, which enables you to send video of yourself to another compatible phone while making a voice call.
The LG Xenon in black with a 2.8-inch touchscreen with vibrating feedback... | The Xenon's large touchscreen with vibration feedback and enhanced user interface make menus, shortcuts, and contacts available right at your fingertips. And with its compact, slideout QWERTY keyboard, you can quickly send text messages and emails. Other features include a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, MicroSD memory expansion (up to 16 GB), organizer tools, access to mobile email and instant messaging, and up to 4 hours of talk time. AT&T Service This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network (UMTS/HSDPA), which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it's also very useful for business. For example, a majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.
...and a smooth, slide-out full QWERTY keyboard for easy text messaging and writing longer emails. | You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. It's also pre-loaded with AT&T's Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from AT&T affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you're on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. AT&T customers pay no additional fee to access mobile banking and, because the application resides on the handset, the service is optimized to reduce the number of new page views necessary to complete a transaction. Minimal data usage charges apply and vary based on individual use. Phone Features The LG Xenon has a 2.8-inch LCD touchscreen with a 240 x 400-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors. It provides haptic vibration feedback when you touch icons or the onscreen keyboard, and it also has an accelerometer for auto-rotation of the screen when you turn it from portrait to landscape view. Below the screen you'll find just three buttons--one for accessing the main menu and standard send/end keys. Not as good as 2 cans and a string! October 28, 2009 invisible (United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this phone as a replacement for a water damaged Motorola phone. This was a big mistake.
1) Reception: This phone spontaneously loses service. Usually this occurs when moving from tower to tower. I called AT&T about this problem and they did update the software which allows it to only lose service half the time in the city rather than 3/4 of the time. This occurs in conditions when my wife's iphone maintains 3 or 4 bars.
2) Ease of use: It has a touch screen which slides open to expose a hardware keyboard. The touch screen spontaneously locks during calls and will give false inputs if you try to use it to input PIN numbers or negotiate automated menu choices during a call. So the hardware keyboard must be used instead. On some but not all calls it appears you must use the function key to obtain numerical input on the hardware keyboard...very frustrating. Both touch screen and hardware keyboard work better using a stylus but there is no stylus dock and no stylus is provided.
Normally it must be carried locked due to the risk of false inputs to the touch screen but in half light or darkness there are no distinguishing characteristics between the lock button and the volume down button. The lock button is very close to the camera switch which adds to the confusion. I suppose this would be acceptable to a user with perfect night vision, tiny hands and no calluses on their hands.
3) Unneeded functions - bling: There are numerous extra-cost services which clutter all the menus and screens and which appear impossible to delete. This comes at the expense of poorer access to functions the user needs on a daily basis.
4) Battery life: The battery normally only lasts a day or two between charges, even if there are no calls. There is an annoying, irregular, spontaneous, loud warning beep which cannot be turned off nor reset, which usually starts in the middle of the night when the phone decides it needs a charge.
5) Durability: This product is fragile. It appears easily scratched, dented and unsuitable to carry except in a heavy leather case, which unfortunately increases its rate of signal loss.
6) Audibility: The normal speaker (except for warning beeps) is impossible to hear in a moving truck but somewhat audible in a well soundproofed car. Conference mode is barely audible in a truck and easily audible in a car if it is held to the ear. Under quiet conditions with less than 4 bars of reception there remains a constant clipping or skip of both transmission and reception.
7) Connectivity: With effort it will produce a short range bluetooth connection which must be quickly stopped before batteries are depleted. Unfortunately its USB port is nonstandard and requires an extra-cost cable so I don't know how well that function works.
8) In summary: This would be an ideal gift purchase if the buyer has a wealthy elderly uncle whom they wish to drive insane so as to gain control of his vast estate. Or perhaps it could be sent to the buyer's favorite imprisoned Ponzi schemer. Otherwise buy anything else. This phone is entirely unsatisfactory, most suitable for use by a technophilic lemur who is addicted to purchasing extraneous add-on services.
The Perfect Texting Phone October 20, 2009 Ms. Nuhfer 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The xenon is the best phone I ever had. This phone is great to text with, it's so easy! It has a touch screen and a keyboard so if you don't like touching the screen to type or text you can just slide out the keyboard. The buttons on the keyboard are big enough to use, but not weird like phones I've had in the past. It comes in black, blue, red, or silver. There are many shortcuts on the phone like a favorite home page where you can put your favorite applications and a favorite friends home page where you can put your best friend's phone numbers as a shortcut. Also, on the main home page is a box with short cuts to viewing pictures, a to do list, a calendar, a music player, a world clock, and a regular clock. One reason this phone is so amazing is that it has a very large screen. Pictures are easier to view on this large screen rather than phones with a tiny one. It's also useful because all the applications can be larger and so can the font so it is easy to read. Even though the phone is larger, it can still easily fit in your pocket, which is nice. Another reason why people should buy this phone is because it's not easily broken. I've dropped it so many times, from the top of my dad's truck to the driveway, down stairs, and I even accidentally threw it at the wall and it still works perfect. Thirdly, this phone is an excellent phone to get because it has so many shortcuts. On the home page is a bar to the side with shortcuts I use all the time like texting, the phone book, and calling someone. These shortcuts are very helpful because all I have to do is select it and use it instead of finding it in the menu. As you can see, this phone is one of the best phones you can get because it has a touch screen and a keyboard, it has helpful shortcuts, and has a big screen, but can still easily fit in your pocket. I recommend that you buy the LG xenon because you will definitely love it.

nice phone, may have screen auto-rotate issue October 18, 2009 w22w (Lake Tahoe, NV) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This phone has quite nice functionality, and i find it to be fairly intuitive and easy to use. The music player works well, but head phones / ear buds are hard to find (i found one here on amazon - @ "KarenDeals" - works great and was cheap!). The key board is quite nice, and texting is easy.
The only issue i have with this phone is that about 6 weeks after my purchase, the screen auto-rotate function (flips vertical to horizontal, allowing use of the keyboard) broke. I could not get it to turn horizontal. i tried everything - including reading the manual carefully regarding the "auto rotate" function, and learned more about the phone than i wanted to. There is no manual over-ride command to make the screen rotate, and even if there was it would be a drag, since it's nice to just slide open the phone revealing the keyboard and having the screen turn accordingly.
So, with the screen rotate function broken, the keyboard is not acknowledged, and thus is useless. This phone without the keyboard is meaninglesss! Without the keyboard you might as well have a $20 throwaway phone.
So, it was replaced and the replacement phone is working fine now for about a month (fingers crossed).
I would figure this was just a fluke, but i have a friend with the same phone and had the SAME problem! Now, 2 phones is not exactly a scientific study, but it makes me wonder.
Great phone October 2, 2009 Ethan C. F. (Chicago) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
All in all, it's a pretty good phone. Touch screen is above average, but not as good as some of the others on the market (the samsung version of this and the iPhone are the only two I've used that are better, everything else is equal or less), keyboard is great for texting, reception and sound quality are great. Battery life is outstanding until you make a phone call, anything more than 20 minutes will drain the battery pretty quickly. If you don't make any phone calls you shouldn't have to charge it for a week, with calls maybe once every 2 to 3 days. The worse thing is that on occassion if you slam the phone shut the screen will turn off and you have to turn it off and back on again. This doesn't happen often, but it does happen and is frustrating. Just don't slam it!
