Great product for my scenario August 16, 2009 jebo (St Louis, MO) My Honda Accord has a cigarette power adaptor in the armrest.
I added an auxiliary audio plug to the stereo, and the end of the plug terminates inside my armrest.
The audio plug connects to this Belkin device, which plugs into the power adaptor, and it allows me to run one cable to my ipod, which sits in the cupholders. For me, this item is essential.
I will say, however, that this is the 2nd one of these I've purchased because the plug on my first one broke down with use. It probably lasted 1.5 or 2 years. I would have hoped for a little better lifespan than that. Hoping the 2nd one provides it.
Incompatible with Ipod Touch Rev 2 (and more) May 14, 2009 Timothy Leslie (Fairfax, VA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First negative review of a product at Amazon, and it's got 3 strikes.
1) Product listed as compatible with iPod touch, but my rev.2 (32gb) complains about the accessory is not permitted to charge my iPod.
2) The line-out clearly has some noise in it (although it would likely have less if I turned down the amp). It's not so bad in my car that I'm "listening to my spark plugs", but it's clearly there. It's also a very low frequency, which bothers me more than radio hiss would.
3) It's not well behaved - if you unplug the iPod it still sucks juice, so I can't just leave it plugged in somewhere (well, maybe I could, but I'm not willing to test how much it pulls vs how strong my battery is) and just use it to plug in the iPod when it's in the car with me.
Overall, a frustrating buy. If I can find a 32gb old ipod that I can just have be the "car ipod", I may pick it up cheap, but otherwise this product will likely gather dust in the glove box for a bit.
Not compatible with 4th gen nano April 21, 2009 S. Crumb (Washington, the state) It seems like a great idea for a charger but it is not compatible with my 4th generation iPod nano.
Good product December 12, 2008 Philli M. Harris (Denver, CO USA) We have an older ipod that has a motherboard issue, so the headphone jack no longer works. This is the only power adaptor that I could find that also had an audio out on it. It allows me to charge the ipod and connect the ipod to the aux input on the car stereo. We have other ipods as well, but this product has allowed me to leave that ipod in the car so we have it at all times. The only negative is the built in amplifier. You have to get it just right to avoid getting a feedback type of hum throung the car stereo.
Simple, Cheap, Good October 10, 2008 M. Medeiros (Honolulu, HI) Anyone who uses a car cassette adapter or line-in to play music in their car will appreciate this. It's cheap, charges the iPod (not officially the iPhone, but it DOES work), and gives a clean, powerful line-out signal. Harder to find because of the popularity of radio transmitters (not as good, interference problems). Recommend to those with a simple car and setup.
