Product Description
On a crisp winter’s day in Glenwood Canyon, Colorado, Art Daily suffered a terrible tragedy. While driving home with his family from a youth hockey game, a large boulder dislodged from the canyon wall and struck their car, killing his wife and two sons–while leaving him inexplicably untouched. In one instant, Art’s entire life crumbled, leaving him feeling utterly alone. As family, friends, and the entire Aspen community rushed in to offer comfort and support, Art faced what he imagined to be a bleak and lonely future. But what he found surprised him: the healing power of a stranger’s grace.

That stranger was Allison, a twenty-eight-year-old Texan who had stopped in Aspen on her way to a new life. Allison was a woman struggling with her own grief following her older brother’s suicide and the end of her marriage. When she heard of Art’s tragedy, she felt compelled to reach out to him, a person whom she had never met but with whom she identified deeply. Art and Allison forged a close friendship, tending to each other’s wounds and eventually falling in love and starting a family. And through it all, the living memory of Art’s wife and sons guided and comforted them.

Out of the Canyon is the inspiring story of how two people found the courage to move on after profound heartbreak. Art and Allison teach us that it is not only possible to live through such turmoil, but to embrace life anew. And, with humility and understanding, they offer direct insight and advice on what truly helped them deal with irreversible change and how we can do the same.

5 out of 5 stars A Riveting True Life Story that Leaves You Wandering 'What if?'   September 22, 2009
Coll B
"What if" the accident didn't happen and Art Daily the author had his family back again?

It reads like s powerful tale of survival yet the stark reality is, it did happen and the true life story is riveting and compelling to read. You'll feel a certain 'loss' and compassion for the author in his ordeal but a 'gain' in how he's survived the incident that turned his life around and gave him the chance to build a new life.

There are moments in the book when you feel the poignancy of the author's experience, how he felt that sense of bereavement, anguish and bewilderment at being put through this life-changing ordeal. At times you feel a sense of remorse and compassion and at times, good in the recognition that the author manages to pull himself out of this gaping emptiness and traumatic void, to surface, 'triumphantly' a survivor who can at last smile.

A deeply moving true life story which makes you 'weep' with tears of sadness, then amazement and then finally, genuine happiness at the author's strength of mind and courage.

5 out of 5 stars Miraculous true story of love, loss and spirituality!   August 20, 2009
MGA (St. Charles, IL)
I know this family personally and this book is an amazing story of how love triumphs over all. A man lost his wife and children suddenly in a tragic car accident and walked away untouched. His daughter from his first marriage (Piper, my oldest best friend), as well as the town of Aspen, carried him through the first days and months of grief, and then he met an unbeleivable woman who became his wife. Allison supported him through the loss and helped him stay above water every day. She too has experienced loss, so they connect and support each other through a terribly tough time... and through it all they fell in love and created a new family. This book will make you count your blessings and understand that death is a part of the natural process, and that we must move on for our loved ones and live every day to the fullest. This is a story that EVERYONE should read, whether you've experienced loss or not. It is a FEEL GOOD, CAN'T PUT IT DOWN, AWESOME BOOK!!!

5 out of 5 stars Undescribable gripping and beautiful   August 1, 2009

I love this book. As a talk radio host it's my "job" to be prepared and do the "research". This amazing book had me (as well as my family) in the palm of its hand. We cried, we laughed and we glowed all along the way. My two children begged me to read more. By the end of the story I had a sense of peace, inspiration and awe over the beauty of the depth of grief, love and community. Perfect for anyone who is going through a loss, has gone through a loss, and wants to be inspired through the grief of death. Yes...perfect for nearly everyone. Oprah where are you, on this one!

This a powerful story of trusting your inner voice and choosing life in the face of death. Art and Allison's journey is so inspiring and so full of love it practically jumps off the page. Reading this book makes me want to be a better person. If in reality life is crumbling down on top of me, I want to be strong and continue to view life positively. This book will change your life if you let it....
