5 out of 5 stars Grief Therapy   November 1, 2009
Marian B. Stillwell
I have shared this book for many years with friends who have lost dear canine friends, and it has always helped them to say goodbye with a smile. Recently, I bought a copy to share with the children at the school where I teach, in hopes that they may also benefit.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for closure   October 8, 2009
Steven T. Barham (Sterling, VA United States)
A co-worker loaned me her copy of this book after my family had to put our 12-year-old Jack Russell-mix down. I have a six-year-old and 18-month-old who loved their dog in different ways, but I believe that I needed to hear the encouraging words from Cynthia Rylant's story even more than my older daughter did. As I read the story, I felt the hope in every word that Jacki was enjoying Dog Heaven without pain or suffering. Jacki was my first dog, and the first "child" my wife and I "raised". The words on the pages will make any dog owner realize that their pet was loved and will be forever loved.

5 out of 5 stars Dog Heaven   October 4, 2009

A magical book that heals the soul, when you have lost the beloved family dog.

5 out of 5 stars A most wonderful book for all ages.   September 10, 2009
Linda J. Looney (Taylor, Texas United States)
Cynthia Rylant did a wonderful thing when she wrote and illustrated this book! It is a true classic treasure. I bought Dog Heaven for my grandchildren when a beloved pet of mine died, that was two years ago and they still want me to read it to them as a "bednight story" when they are at my house. I also send a copy to friends when they lose a pet, it brings tears, but happy-sad tears, and healing tears. The artwork is dear and compliments the innocent flavor of the text. This was the first book she illustrated and I think that is more than half of the attraction it holds. She should illustrate more of her books because her style is so sweet and endearing for the little ones.

I have, unfortunately, had to send this book to several people whose dogs have died...they all seem to enjoy it, as we did when someone first sent it to us.......
