Product Description
As comforting as a soft blanket and warm as a goodnight hug, Eric Metaxas's lullaby comes to life on this wonderful new audiobook combining two fabulous stories: On the Night You Were Born (a New York Times bestseller) and It¹s Time to Sleep, My Love. Birthday Gift for 3 Year Old November 16, 2009 Just Me (USA) We gave this as a birthday gift for our 3-year-old niece. She LOVES it and insists on hearing it every night before bed.
Useful February 8, 2009 ardnam (NJ) I got this to use in my classroom for relaxation and transitioning to tasks that require greater focus. It works pretty well for those purposes. Sally Taylor alone is worth it. The song is beautiful. Some reviewers took issue with the narrator's voice but the target audience is young children and not adults. It works well for children even if some adults find listening along to be a grating experience. I think the CD also promotes listening skills, which is a very important skill for young children to develop. Overal, this is better suited to either preschool classes or the homefront. It is probaby best to also have the book, which I did not.
Nice lullaby December 24, 2008 Shania Duncan (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The cd was somewhat enjoyable. I thought the song by Sally Taylor, daughter of Carly Simon and James Taylor, was very lovely. It was very calming and soothing. Exactly what you want for a lullaby, but paired with the reading it was thrown off. It would be better to have them separate. Also the read along didn't make sense without the book. It was a nice story but you don't know you need the book beforehand. That takes away from the effectiveness. It would be great with the book included.
I guess I prefer traditional rhymes December 23, 2008 stinhoutx (Mission, TX USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
We listened to the CD, and I think without the book, you lose most of the experience. The poems are nice but I didn't find the music to fit the poems well, again, at least not without the book. If you're using for sleeping music, you'll want to have a programmable CD player so you can order the speaking tracks before the instrumental tracks, and leave out the extra audio. I guess I am more of a Rock-a-Bye fan for lullaby music or classical.
Lovely, Comforting and Affirming December 22, 2008 Michael Lee Stallard (Greenwich, CT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The beautiful music and lovely lyrics of this CD work well in conjunction with the text and illustrations in the book (that's sold separately). The piano and cello were heavenly. Sally Taylor is superb. I noticed some of the reviews were critical of the narrator but I think her voice is likely to be comforting to young children. My only quibble is with the sequence. Children are more likely to settle down to sleep if the read-a-long is first followed by the more passive sections. All in all, I thought the primary elements worked together to produce a truly wonderful CD for young children.
