Customer Reviews: Vignettes from Scottish History November 1, 2001 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Very few books discuss in any great detail the persecution of the Scottish Covenanters during the 1670s and 1680s, the so-called "Killing Times". In fact, this book is the only one I could find currently in print and readily available that did so. It is a well-written collection of stories, each of which is long enough to explain a particular martyrdom and the events leading up to it, yet short enough to hold the reader's attention. I would give it another star or two except, quite frankly, a quarter of the way through the book I started getting tired of reading about one shooting, hanging, or beheading after another. Still, I feel it is an important book and a valuable addition to the library of any student of Scottish history.
