Product Description If you had a giraffe
and he stretched another half ...
you would have a giraffe and a half.
And if you glued a rose
to the tip of his nose ...
And ... if he put on a shoe
and then stepped in some glue ...
And if he used a chair
to comb his hair ...
And so it goes until ... but that would be telling. Children will be kept in stitches until the very end, when the situation is resolved in the most riotous way possible.
Shel Silversteins incomparable line drawings add to the hilarity of his wildly funny rhymes.

My daughter and I became Shel addict because of this book June 14, 2009 compulsive reader 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My daughter received this book for her 4th birthday. That made us total Shel Silverstein addict. I bought every book by Silverstein for the following few years. Now my daughter is driving a car, but I still continue reading and buying his books for my nephews and nieces
A Laugh and a Half June 9, 2009 R. Keimig (MO, USA) You can not beat a Shel Silverstein book. Always full of excitement and at the same time his stories stimulate a childs (and adult's) imagination. Never a dull moment and I think every family should have his books in their home.
Delightful May 25, 2009 Steven Stone (Cupertino, CA USA) Shel's drawings are eccentric enough to capture the attention of kids as young as 2 1/2 and keep their attention while the goofy text is being read to them. It's fun for the adult too!!
Pleasantly addictive! April 19, 2009 Dr Alexander Elder (New York, USA) "If you had a giraffe,
and it stretched another half,
you would have
a giraffe and a half..."
you would also have a 7-year old addicted to the poem, going through its turns and spins of the English language like being on a ride in a convertible on a good mountain road.
A Wonderfully Silly Introduction to Rhyme September 29, 2008 C. J. Reno (Bowie, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Shel Silverstein's poems are always truly a delight. Some of the collections, however, contain poems that are not quite appropriate for the very youngest listeners. A Giraffe and a Half IS targeted at the youngest audiences.
As the poem goes on, the titular giraffe is exposed to a more riotously funny situation on every page (a rose on his nose, glue on his shoe, etc.) My kids were laughing hard, and completing the rhyming phrases by the time the tired (and ludicrously attired) giraffe is rescued from visiting the mole in his hole, and divested of all his rhyming add-ons by various (also rhyming) people and animals.
This is a great book to read aloud to your children--just remember to take a BIG breath at the beginning of each page!
