Geared more for the business world October 30, 2009 Lori Andrews (Cleveland, Ohio) I liked the idea of learning how to improve conversations with others socially but a good number of the ideas in the book are geared toward the business world and it didn't really apply to me personally. The book is not a waste, it was just a little disappointing. I would recommend it if someone wanted to improve their social status at work.
Some Good Techniques, Poor Writing October 11, 2009 Jami L 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book would have been more accurately titled "How to Make Anyone Think You Actually Care: 92 Little Tricks for Wannabe Phonies" While some of the actual tips and tricks in this book were rather handy for those who want to develop their social skills, I disliked how the author assumed that the only reason anyone would read this book was to attempt to manipulate their way to the top of the kitty cat food chain. One of the examples she described was where she, exhausted and totally brain-dead, was able to give the impression that she was actually listening to her friend, without actually having to listen, simply by repeating the end of her friend's sentences. Although I disliked the author's writing style, I can (reluctantly) say my social skills did benefit from reading this book.
excellent detail and insight October 4, 2009 RAW (Bellevue WA) I very much enjoyed the book . So few take the time to show the way to improving good communication skills Thank you.
just another great book from this author October 1, 2009 Marco Medina This just great stuff and I highly recommend it if you want to start a business or if you already have one this book is a must to fix all the things you are doing wrong and you dont ever realize . This book is a must if you want to start your business with the right foot . Thanks Leil for writing this delightful book !
Excellent Read and Information September 23, 2009 W. Essery I had never read anything by Leil Lowndes before, but will now look for her literature. How To Talk To Anyone is filled with information and methods of communication that are practical and enjoyable to read. The chapters are short (normally three to four pages) and contain the communication principle and a relevant example of its use. It is well-written - being clear and also easy and enjoyable to read. A high majority of the 92 tips were relevant directly to me, and I found the few that were for situations in which I am not likely to find myself were windows to the thought processes of those who live those lives. A thoroughly enjoyable and informative book. I read it in two days and will re-read it (as soon as my wife finishes with it) so that I can cement into my own conversation style some of its principles that were new to me. Five star recommendation.
