Library Journal starred review: "Using 250 diagnostic ultrasound images, Harvard radiology professors Doubilet and Carol B. Benson present a marvelous book charting the growth of babies in the womb. . . . The authors well explain the different types of ultrasound and their medical uses, especially the 3D images that show the baby’s outer surface and the 2D images revealing the internal development of organs. This virtual tour of a life in the making will attract future parents in droves." --Janet M. Schneider, James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, Tampa, FL Sciencenews.org: " . . . an accessible and captivating text that guides readers through 9 months of pregnancy."

River Falls Books February 10, 2009 Deirdre 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
The book itself was fine, it did have one page that was slightly wrinkled, but the service left much to be desired. I ordered my book on January 5, 2009. I received an email the following day saying the book would be shipped either the 6th or 7th and I could expect to receive it between January 12 and 28. On January 28, at 5pm, I still hadn't received my book and was quite annoyed, so I sent an email to River Falls Books. They responded saying that the post office didn't recognize our zip code, and they had sent an email telling me that. We have never had problems receiving mail, but we live on the border of two cities, and our zip code is used mainly for the neighboring city, so I could understand if the city and zip didn't match, but why was the zip code itself unrecognizable? The reason I really had a problem is because my job is to take care of the internet orders at the quilt shop I work at, so I know how this should work. And our policy is that if there is a problem with the order, we call or email at least every other day, until we hear back from the customer, and if we never hear back, we refund them their money. River Falls Books only sent one email that more than likely went straight to my junk folder, and when they didn't get a response, did not try to contact me again by email or phone, and also did not refund my money. To me, that is just irresponsible business. If you can't deliver on what you say you will, and you can't reach the customer, at least give them their money back.
beautiful pictures August 22, 2008 Chris Davis (Shreveport, LA) 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
The book had some beautiful pictures of developing babies and will without a doubt instill a respect for life from the beginning of conception. However, the amniocentesis section implied that a choice was possible and many will interpret that possibility as being moral as well. The authors seem like very Christian people and should have stated that children with genetic diseases, whether born or unborn, deserve the right to life like everyone else.
A Great Gift April 7, 2008 Christine Braun (Chatham, NY USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The minute I saw this book, I knew it would make a great present for my cousin who is 16 weeks pregnant with her first child. She was thrilled and soon her mother and others were looking over her shoulder at the wonderful images. It's amazing how much detail you can see through the ultrasounds when they are diagrammed and explained as clearly as they are in this book.
