Product Description The most complete resource for EMT-B training, this best-selling, reader-friendly book contains clear, step-by-step explanations with comprehensive, stimulating, and challenging material that prepares and equips users for real on-the-job situations. With its use of the case study model, state-of-the-art scans, algorithms, protocols, and the inclusion of areas above and beyond the DOT protocols, this new edition of Prehospital Emergency Care prepares users for success. The assessment and emergency care sections provide the most up-to-date strategies for providing competent care; and the enrichment sections further enhance readers' ability to assess and manage ill and injured patients in prehospital environments. Topics covered include an excellent introductory section that contains an overview of the human body, baseline vital signs, history taking, and ethical and legal issues. Subsequent chapters cover the airway; patient assessment; medical, behavioral, and obstetrics/gynecology; trauma; infants and children; operations; and advanced airway management. An excellent reference resource for emergency medical technicians.

Don't get the old edition September 19, 2009 Nathan Loudon Unless you're really strapped for cash and can take a look at a copy of the latest edition I wouldn't recommend purchasing the 7th edition of this book for your EMT class. The chapters are all different, from what I can tell most of the content is the same (though, there are some differences where things are placed in the chapters), but almost all the chapter numbers are different from the new edition. My instructor has us read a couple of chapters every week, so what I had to do was take pictures of the table of contents from a new edition and match it up with the old edition to figure out what I'm supposed to read. If you don't mind doing this, go for it, you'll save yourself a bunch of money. For me though, school is enough work, I don't think I'll be ordering old text books anymore.
A useful (if not necessary) addtion to the textbook September 14, 2009 J. Canning (Sacramento, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most likely you're buying this book because you are about to take an EMT course. Good for you, the world needs people like that. Anyways, while the used prices make look enticing, most instructors prefer, if not insist on a new textbook - because the answers for some problems may already be filled in. And it's really not that much more (as of this writing). If you do buy used, ask the seller first if it's blank.
Pros: Good questions, with a variety of styles (nomenclature, critical thinking, matching and multiple choice). And the answers are in the back - for every problem. So its pretty difficult to screw up.
Cons: Let me know if you find any.
Overall: A most likely necessary addition to the textbook. One review made allusions to a CD. The CD comes with the textbook, not this book. And just because the answers are in the back, don't go and fill in all the answers from there, you'll be doing yourself a great disservice. Do the work, pass the class, save lives.
