Amazon.com Review The faces that Kevyn Aucoin has made are stellar and luminous: Cher, Tina Turner, Vanessa Williams, and Julia Roberts are but a few of the stars in Aucoin's galaxy of clientele. More than making do, making up is the art of achieving your own special look, and Aucoin insists that there are no hard and fast rules--except for the obvious ones, such as "Don't put lipstick in your eye." The first section offers, in his own words, Aucoin's favorite ideas, tricks, and techniques for enhancing, defining, and altering facial features with makeup. You'll learn how to care for your skin, what foundation to use with your skin type, and transformational magic for that central player in the drama of beauty: eyes. Through his gallery of noncelebrity before-and-afters, Aucoin shows clearly how to use his fundamentals to achieve dozens of different looks. The gorgeous final chapter reads like a list of exotic characters in a play--the Vamp, the Siren, the Diva.... In fact, such celebrities as Isabella Rosselini, Demi Moore, and Nicole Kidman pose as these dramatic, splendidly made-up characters. These sumptuous photographs are accompanied by full-page illustrations listing the "ingredients" required to create these looks as well as simple directions for achieving them. The introduction by the author, at once amusing and endearing ("...trying to conceal the fact that I was a gay, effeminate, hyperactive, adopted child with a serious lisp in southern Louisiana would have been like trying to hide Dolly Parton in a string bikini!"), and Aucoin's commentary throughout, makes Making Faces a unique reference book--beautiful, informative, and personal.

Fantastic September 12, 2009 Punk Chick Nik I absolutely LOVED this book. As a cosmetologist Im always looking to see dramatic changes in make up as well as something subtle to be warn everyday or for a wedding. This book has it all (more of the everyday type stuff and not very many dramatic looks though). It gives you a ton of illistrations on how to apply as well as the finished photo and great step by step instructions on achieving the looks shown. Its great even if youre not a professional. I would HIGHLY recommend this book for beginners as well as professionals who've been in the industry for a long time!
making faces by kevyn aucoin September 6, 2009 B. Johnson The book is the manuel for makeup artists everywhere. The author, Kevyn Aucoin was a true master of cosmetics. The step by step detailed pics and drawing make it easy to understand and create beauty. I love the book and will be getting all of Kevyn's books. If nothing else, the books are an interesting conversation piece in your home.
Making Faces - Kevyn Aucoin August 22, 2009 Wendy Skelly (Australia) I am currently completing a cert 4 Makeup course, I purchased this book and it is fantastic. It has all the techniques that we are taught. I love this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves makeup and wants to learn the correct application.
Made Over and Better August 22, 2009 Jean (Hawaii) Great instructions, examples, lists of materials and easy to follow pictures and photos. I am finally out of the 80s funk - makeup is more mature, fun, event appropriate and allows me to try many different styles, colors, and products. Perfecting the eyebrow trimming and grooming mystery is over. A must have for anyone who wants to look and feel better.
Very Helpful August 2, 2009 Art Photo Fan (Nevada, USA) This book was very helpful to me as a photographer who works primarily with female models. I've recreated the techniques described in this book on my models with spectacular results. As someone who can not always work with a make-up artist, I've found this book to be extremely helpful in my work with female models.
The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. This book is a great make-up guide for beginners, providing looks that are easy to copy as well as inspiration for any artist's own make-up creations.
