| Customer Reviews: There's Better Out There June 30, 2007 P. Hayden (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio USA) Even though this book was cute to read I found it dragged, bland and boring. If you want a book that is for child of `potty training' age that is combine with `house breaking' the new puppy then might I suggest, "The Piddle and Piles Series: NOT IN THE HOUSE!" by Peyton Wolfe. It is absolutely awesome!!! The illustrations are fantastic, but the story just blows you away. (Especially for a children's book.) She combines the two together with story, illustrations and song. My two kids loved it! When I started to go through the potty training with my first child my husband and I thought it would be a great idea to get a puppy so that they could grow up together. We have tried my books, but should have bought this one only and saved a ton of money of not buying the rest. It is entertaining and helps our kids become a part of the training process of our family dog. The book help them understand that through pictures, song and story that they have responsibilities to take care of themselves, but to also take care of your pet.
So, to everybody - I wouldn't really buy this book, but if I was you - I WOULD BUY THE OTHER >>>>> "The Piddle and Piles Series: NOT IN THE HOUSE!" by Peyton Wolfe. It really helped me and my husband through it.
Cute & Clever April 15, 2004 Sally R. (Madison, Wisconsin) How refreshing to have a book that celebrate "potty success" without getting preachy about it! Sometimes I think we over-focus on "performance." This is a fun and gentle story for toddlers, with delightfully simple illustrations.
"Decent Introduction to the Potty" September 26, 2003 Michelle (U.S.) Here's a potty book written from a slightly different angle. The title suggests a story about a child and his or her pet. Only the potty on the cover gives a clue to the content.Simply executed in 51 words and cut-paper collage, author - illustrator Cathryn Falwell cleverly alternates the story line between P. J. (gender undetermined) and the new potty and Puppy and the newspaper. "P. J. plays. Puppy plays. P. J. wets pants. Puppy wets rug." Mom's got skills, because she apparently toilet trains her child AND house trains her dog at the same time. If you own a puppy, your family will relate. We don't, but my girls liked it anyway. We have read almost every potty book available on the market as of 9/2003 (over two dozen!). Most fit into two categories: INSTRUCTIONAL books that introduce the skills needed to master the potty; and those that are primarily ENTERTAINING, for children who understand what is supposed to happen on the potty, but need extra time to make it happen. P. J. and Puppy provides little in the way of instruction. You the parent must fill in the gaps with functional information. Falwell's dedication states: "To all parents who think dry days will never come..." Her book is a gentle nudge in that direction.
ADORABLE April 27, 2000 Rose Murphy (Hillsdale, Michigan) My 2.5 yr old son really liked it. He likes puppies and we'reworking on potty training. I especially liked the page with the wetpants and wet rug (from the puppy). Later the pants and the rug were both dry and everyone had big smiles. Cute pictures and a cute idea to show kids that some pets have to learn this too. It doesn't mention anything about pooping though, which is the area my toddler needs the most help with right now.
