Product Description As with all Clive Cusslers dazzling Dirk Pitt novels, critics said Treasure of Khan amazes, informs and entertains (Publishers Weekly), the action zipping along until a final powerhouse showdown (Entertainment Weekly). Whats not to like? proclaimed the Los Angeles Timesand hundreds of thousands of readers agreed.
In his new novel, howeverthe twentieth Dirk Pitt adventure Cussler may have topped even himself.
A potential breakthrough discovery to reverse global warming . . . a series of unexplained sudden deaths in British Columbia . . . a rash of international incidents between the United States and one of its closest allies that threatens to erupt into an actual shooting war . . . NUMA director Dirk Pitt and his children, Dirk. Jr. and Summer, have reason to believe theres a connection here somewhere, but they also know they have very little time to find it before events escalate out of control. Their only real clue might just be a mysterious silvery mineral traced to a long-ago expedition in search of the fabled Northwest Passage. But no one survived from that doomed mission, captain and crew perished to a manand if Pitt and his colleague Al Giordino arent careful, the very same fate may await them.
Filled with the breathtaking suspense and audacious imagination that have become his hallmarks, this is a tour de force further proof that when it comes to adventure writing, nobody beats Clive Cussler.

Clive...Please Read This! November 17, 2009 J. Muckerman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Here are my thoughts about Arctic Drift and the last two Dirk novels: They are inferior. They weren't written by Clive. I wish they were. Yes, I understand passing the characters on to his son, but don't put your name on it to sell books. The plot is pretty good. The book wasn't terrible, but when I pick up a book with Clive Cussler on the front I want something great.
Here are my suggestion to Clive:
Let your son try and sell books with only his name on them.
Write one more Dirk Pitt book...the final one...have some crazy ending...kill Dirk, whatever. But make it good. Make it a 1000 pages if you want. Leave us with a good taste in our mouth when we think of Dirk Pitt. These last three just aren't up to par.
Again...they aren't terrible, but not near as good as the worst by Clive himself.
Wait, Haven't I Read This Already? October 8, 2009 Eight Hour Lunch (Salt Lake City, Utah) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've enjoyed reading most of the Dirk Pitt novels, but it's getting to the point where I'd be better off just reading one of the old ones over again. The predictable plot, excessive and clumsy global warming commentary and lack of innovation made this one hard to get through. To be sure, there were a few exciting moments, and I enjoyed some of the action towards the end. That said, I found myself wondering if that's where the senior Cussler said, "Ok son, I'll take it from here." With so many other great books out there to read, I wouldn't put this one high on your to-do list.
This is a very stupid book October 1, 2009 Jack (State College, PA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is most stupid, improbable book I have ever read. I'm glad I got it from the library instead of wasting my money on it. Anybody who buys this book has got to be totally desperate for something to read. Skip it and read something worthwhile.
Another Dirk Pitt winner September 25, 2009 R. Ballister (Annapolis, MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dirk, Al, Loren, and the Admiral are back in yet another Dirk Pitt adventure. This time, the villain is a money-hungry energy baron named Goyette, who masterminds Canada and the United States to the brink of war in order to line his pockets with millions of dollars. But he didn't count on running into Dirk Pitt, who may be older and wiser than in earlier novels, but every bit as intense. Now married to the beautiful Loren Smith, he tries to stay out of harm's way, but ends up in the thick of things as usual. With his NUMA friends, he searches below the ocean and above the Arctic Circle for not one but two sailing ships that may hold the key to ending global warming and foiling Goyette's plan.
Yes, Dirk has done the the ship-entombed-in-ice before. And yes, those who have read other Dirk Pitt novels may find this a bit predictable. But true fans of Dirk Pitt won't care, because that is why we keep coming back. The alternate history, the love of classic cars, the way Dirk always seems to meet a man named Clive Cussler somewhere in the book, the one-liners, for the true believers it never gets old, and once again it's all here. This is another decent installment in a series that has provided thousands and thousands of pages and hours and hours of reading entertainment. A solid read that Pitt fans won't be able to put down.
Too much global warming September 14, 2009 Chris West (Rexburg, ID) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Anyone who may have a problem with the global warming debate will dislike this book. While I love Cussler books and certainly all of the Dirk Pitt novels, this was too difficult to like. Cussler has never been so political. I wanted to keep reading because the adventure was worth reading, but the whole "the world is in chaos because of our failure to take action to curb global warming" got annoying fast.
So if you support the global warming theories, then you'll love this book. If you don't, then this is a Dirk Pitt adventure to skip.
