| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The sturdy Akita, a much favored breed in his native Japan, is a loyal and affectionate family dog that thrives on companionship with humans. This book is a brand-new title in Barrons extensive line of Complete Pet Owners Manuals. They advise current and soon-to-be pet owners on the care of dogs and cats of virtually all recognized breeds, as well as on birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, small mammals, and even exotic creatures like tarantulas and sugar gliders. The information in each book is authoritative but the language is non-technical and easy for every pet owner to understand. Every title in this series is individually written from first page to last by a breeder, trainer, veterinarian, or other animal specialist. All Complete Pet Owners Manuals are filled with high-quality color photos and instructive line art.

| Customer Reviews: Good overview of the Akita, "Complete" is misleading. November 22, 2004 Frank Duxx (Indianapolis, IN United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The book provides quality information, just keep in mind it is pretty much a general overview of many topics. It does not go in depth on any one topic (i.e. training, nutrition, history). For someone who doesn't know anything about dogs, particularly Akitas, this would be good. I found a lot of the information general dog knowledge.
Training tips October 9, 2003 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have purchased this book after adopting an Akita. The book states not to adopt an older Akita like I did. I do not agree. I have a great 2yr old Akita that I adopted from my local animal shelter. This book does have some great information until it comes to training.I would suggest a different book if training is what your looking for.
Short, but filled with information. November 24, 2001 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have bought several books about Akita's from Amazon. This book was filled with information and was written in a easy to read format. I own seven Akita's and have raised two litters. Anyone thinking of purchasing an Akita for the first time should read this book.
