Leadership and Teamwork August 1, 2009 Robert A. Colaneri (New jersey) needed this book for my Masters class, only had to review one chapter, easy read, only buy if you need to.
Not narrated by JM himself. June 15, 2009 MDVGA (GA USA) I was disappointed that it was not narrated by John Maxwell himself.
Same content, but harder to listen to since it's someone else reading the book.
Solid examples drive this text on teamwork April 20, 2009 Nate Muzika (Pittsburgh) Dr. John C. Maxwell scores another winner with "The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork". Dr. Maxwell strives to provide real life examples about how teamwork works in various environments. Some of the negative reviews have criticized the book for using a large amount of sporting and war examples, but I find these examples to be rather good. As someone who has played sports my whole life, I know that many of the princples that Maxwell talks about are evident in good teams both inside and outside of the sporting world.
The inside flap is loaded with praise from famous and successful individuals from a variety of fields. These individuals claim that Maxwell's theories work, and theit results really do speak for themselves.
Without spoiling anything I will quickly preview each and every individual law.
1. The Law of Significance--Shows that no single person can achieve greatness alone.
2. The Law of the Big Picture--States that the goal of the team is much larger than the role of any individual.
3. The Law of the Niche--Proves that every team member has a place where their skill set can be applied in order to help the team.
4. The Law of Mount Everest--Is a metaphor that shows as the challenege increase there is a need for teamwork to increase.
5. The Law of the Chain--Notes that a team is only as strong as its worst player.
6. The Law of the Catalyst--In sporting terms, a team needs players who can make something happen.
7. The Law of the Compass--Team members needs a distinct vision.
8. The Law of the Bad Apple--One bad attitude can ruin team morale.
9. The Law of Countability--Team members must be able to count on one another.
10. The Law of the Price Tag--A team must pay a certain price in order to succeed.
11. The Law of the Scoreboard--A team must understand where it stands in order to improve.
12. The Law of the Bench--A team needs depth in order to achieve its goals.
13. The Law of Identity--It is vital for a team to have shared values and ideas.
14. The Law of Communication--Interaction, both from the top-down and on a peer to peer basis increases performance.
15. The Law of the Edge--States that when all things are equal the team with a better leader will succeed.
16. The Law of High Morale--Notes that success is easier to achieve when group morale is high.
17. The Law of Dividends--Mentions that investing in a team compounds over time.
I bought this book in order to complete an assignment for a college course, but I have found it to be a pretty excellent read. I would reccomend this book to any that is going to lead or work in a team environment.
