Variety of recipes August 18, 2009 L. D. Gallo (Boston, MA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This cookbook loses a point because some recipes call for canned fruits and I don't believe in anything that isn't fresh for my dogs. That being said, lots of great advice and comments on nutrition. Clear guidelines for serving portions makes it easy. I do prefer another cookbook called Barker's Grub and would recommend that before this one.
Puppies thankful for this book! August 12, 2009 S. Gue 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
My pups love this book since I have been making such yummy dinners for them. During this very hot weather they have been especially enjoying the yogurt pops (banana, yogurt, peanut butter - frozen) I've been making for them. The recipes are very easy, with 4-6 ingredients and not at all difficult to make. I like having the calorie counts with each recipe as well. I would like to have a label more like the "human" product labels that show vitamin/mineral content quantities and such since I'm always nervous about providing them enough of their required nutrients since I'm mostly home cooking for them. I do add 1/3 cup of Evo Red Bites and give them a multi vitamin just to make sure they're getting their daily needs met.
They do look great though. Great fur, good firm poops (they had been suffering from diarrhea before I started home cooking and that was WITH using very high quality dog foods), and great energy levels. I love the variety of meals (my doggies loved their salmon dinner), and the snack recipes. The snacks are much better than anything you can buy at the store (which is packed with food coloring and fake sprayed on bacon scent).
I like that there is a wide variety of recipes, from high fat to low carb to everything in between. You dog is bound to like (and I would bet, love) one or two!
Great Book With Easy Recipes! June 15, 2009 S. Zabelle 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this mainly for treat recipes as this is a great alternative to expensive store bought treats. With this book of recipes you control what your dog eats and since mine eats alot of treats, this book is a must have.
Excellent book ... June 11, 2009 M. Blackford (Oklahoma) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After too many loose stool episodes, I decided to start making my dogs food. This cookbook is excellent and detailed. Has recipes for both treats and meals. My dogs have loved every recipe I've tried and their tooshes appreciate it as well. Great book!
Love this book May 15, 2009 M. Jefferson 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am just starting out switching from commercial dog food to cooking for my dogs. One of them suffers from EPI. This book is very informative and easy to use. I like the vet notes that go with each recipe, and the fact that they give you guidelines for the amount of food to feed.A good variety of meals and treats...this exceeded my expectations!
