Product Description Some books tell you what to change. This one tells you how! Master the powers of the mind, open the gateways to your subconscious, and seize control of your life. If you've been struggling to modify deeply ingrained habits, or reach any difficult-to-achieve goal, willpower alone may not do the trick. The secret to success lies deeply buried in the unconscious, and one of the world's foremost hypnotherapists will show you point by point how to make a commitment to change, get motivated, and alter the ingrained negative "programming" that's holding you back. With this self-hypnosis handbook, you'll learn innovative empowerment exercises that teach relaxation, stress management, overcoming insomnia, and establishing priorities. Avoid the "failure trap" by clearing psychic obstacles. "Creatively" daydream to stop smoking, lose weight, and improve job performance, memory, study habits, and more. Add on the proper use of affirmations, and fine-tune the ability of language to heal or harm. Find out the four important trance ingredients (imagination, belief, expectancy, and conviction) and use the practical tips on how to build them up and employ them in your journey into self-hypnosis. 144 pages, 7 x 10.

Certification? March 24, 2008 MEJ (Seattle, WA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mr. Hunter is associated with Tacoma Community College here in Washington State. He provides in person instruction but also Video based instruction that can provide the necessary contact hours for full fledged Certification by Hypnotherapy certification bodies.
A great book for the consumer February 21, 2008 Dale Robinson (southeast Missouri) . The book instructs the reader on how to use self-hypnosis to change areas of his or her life that they would like to change.
I need to tell the reader that I have met Mr, Hunter several times and have attended several workshops that he conducted. I have also read all of his books. Mr. Hunter is responsible for inspiring me to be the best Hypnotherapist I can be. I also feel that I have had the best training from Mr. Hunter that I have had in all of my hypnosis training.
The first part of the book educates the reader on the history and basic facts of hypnosis. The second part of the book informs the reader of the role of the Subconscious and how to program it. This part of the book also describes stress management. Part three describes the process of defining your goals for self-hypnosis and the process of putting them to work with self-hypnosis. Part four describes creative daydreaming, Part five describes how to inject power into your self=hypnosis.
The book ends with a set of questions and answers about self-hypnosis and a glossery of hypnosis term. Finally, Mr. Hunter a;sp provides some self-hypnoosis scripts and affirmations..
This book is well written and in my opinion is the best book of self-hypnosis available. It is clearly written and Mr. Hunter gets his point across clearly on all subjects. My only complaint is that Mr. HUnter is too modest. He attributes his skills to his mentor, Charles Tebbits. Mr. Tibbets was a great hypnotist and is one of the pioneers of modern hypnotism. Mr. Hunter studied under Mr. Tebbits but I believe that Mr. Hunter has taken what he learned from Mr Tibbets about the art of self-hypnosis and taken it to new heights. I reccommend this book to anyone who is serious about making real changes in their life.

very poor, tells nothing... October 8, 2002 JORGE PESSOA (rio de janeiro, brazil) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
very poor, i do not believe some body could tell things that everybody knows, waste of money.
Typical of poor-quality Self-Hypnosis books. May 3, 2001 Donald Robertson (UK) 32 out of 38 found this review helpful
This book is poor quality and fundamentally misleading in places. There is nothing of value here which you can't get on the net for free. Just do a search for "Self-Hypnosis Scripts" If I taught my clients how to do self-hypnosis in this way I doubt if they would have much success. All the stuff about Alpha and Beta brainwaves is just an intellectual red-herring and tells you nothing practical about the attitudes of mind which facilitate trance induction. Hunter's style and his techniques are straight out of last century. If you read some of the old books you'll be surprised how little he has added. He provides very basic information and scripts for eye-fixation and progressive relaxation inductions but no real guidelines on how to make them more effective. He does not address the typical obstacles which, e.g., self-hypnosis groups tend to encounter and overcome. He doesn't provide adequate advice for clients who report that they have difficulty physically relaxing, or who feel excessively aware and analytic of the experience. This book provides about half the story of self-hypnosis and its the half which most people know already, or which they could find on the net or in any number of other books on the pop-psychology bookshelf.Don.
