Average manual. July 10, 2004 J. Connor (Palm Desert, CA United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Another average pet manual released on the market. The only guide released should have been Nona Kilgore Baur's thick manual on this particular Retriever. This delicacy breed has manuals written about it that required so little time by a less insightful company over the years. Cairns did not need to bother writing this material, as it has been duplicated already in superior guides. Our household contains two juvenile Golden Retrievers in the process of house and outdoor training. This guide did not prove to be any help since we had already purchased Baur's guide. The reason so many books have been written over the years was to trivalize the popularity of variable books on this very special pet. Do not buy this if you already own "Golden Retrievers for Dummies" by Nona K. Baur.
Grrrreat Book January 7, 2002 Cheryl (O'Fallon, MO United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My husband and I both found this book to be a good book on Golden Retrievers. No matter if you are an amateur or professional, you will find this book enjoyable
Something For Everyone Who Loves Goldens February 28, 2000 Lory Worthing (Minnesota) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
If you love Goldens, this is the book for you. Ms. Cairns covers the spectrum from family pets to hunting and field dogs to outstanding show dogs. The book is filled with lovely pictures and wonderful thoughts on puppies, active adults and an especially nice section on the joys of the older dog. The book is a visual treat and something you will be proud to add to your library.
Interesting, complete, with beautiful photography October 5, 1999 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
"The Golden Retriever: All that Glitters" is a beautiful, informative book that's large enough to cover many topics thoroughly. It is written in a clear, enjoyable manner, with terrific (if not very large) photographs. Jamie Cairns truly knows, loves, and understands Goldens, and it shows in her comprehensive and occasionally humorous coverage of "Living with a Golden Retriever". She provides good information on health and maintenance issues, and more time than usual discussing field, obedience, agility, and other topics. The section on "Caring for the Older Golden Retriever" is both interesting and uncommon. The author leans toward field-bred Goldens rather than conformational, and this is reflected both in the text and especially the photography. It's not typical, and I loved it. All-in-all, a beautiful and well-done book that would be a great addition to every Golden-lover's bookshelf.
A golden book on Golden Retrievers. August 24, 1999 vargo@buffalocvb.org (Buffalo, New York) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
If an owner of a new Golden Retriever can buy just one book, make it this one! The Golden Retriever: All That Glitters covers every aspect of owning a Golden in an understandable and practical way. A great reference to be used again and again! Cairns manages to cover everything from the first fun of owning a pup to the serious concerns of caring for an aging Golden with a professional style and attitude that everyone from the newest novice through the seasoned veteran to the breed will appreciate. Her concise style has produced a book crammed with valuable information on the endless possibilities of enjoying life with a Golden!
