5 out of 5 stars What a comforting book!   November 20, 2009
Lynn Jameson (Oshkosh, Nebraska)
What a great book this is! I found it at Hoke's Bookstore in downtown Ogallala NE and thumbed through it and knew I had to have it. As soon as I got home I read it. I have ordered at least 4 more. It is a great gift to give to someone, along with the expected sympathy card that we all send. I like it because it does not deal with what happens to the deceased after the death but, rather, what happens to the loved one left behind. It is all about the grieving process and explains it in a most comforting and beautiful way. Most folks have their own belief system as far as what happens after death, as do I. That is not where the help is needed. Very few understand what is happening with the grieving part of the matter. They experience feelings that they deem inappropriate, such as anger, and don't know how to process these feelings. This book is very helpful in this respect. One of the most important points it makes is that grief is an individual thing and everyone has to deal with it in his/her own way. Wonderful book!!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome, awesome, and a million times awesome!   November 11, 2009
Nich (MA, USA)
I lost my Dad 7 weeks ago - it was very sudden and completely unexpected. I have been really struggling, as has my 8 yo daughter, so I did some searching for books on grief that may help us both. I actually got this one for my daughter, but think it has helped me just as much, if not more!!

It's honest, yet gentle, and helps you realize that the way you grieve will be different than other people - even if you have lost the same person, or the same figure. As a total bonus to the text, the pictures are beautiful and enhance the book's theme immensely.

Because the book never explicitly says why Granny is grieving it is fantastic for anyone who is dealing with a loss of any kind.

This is a great resource for people dealing with grief and those who want to understand people dealing with grief.

5 out of 5 stars Tear Soup for sadness recovery   October 9, 2009
Ele Singer (Hummelstown, PA, USA)
When I was looking for books about grief recovery, I cam across this wonderful book. It is written in a children's format, but is interesting, engaging and helpful to adults as well. The illustrations lead the reader through a journey of collecting thoughts and memories in order to pass through the process of grief and letting go in order to return to some sense of normalcy in life. I highly recommend it as a way to deal with feelings of loss, disappointment and grief. I have purchased this book for several people who were struggling with loss, and I get lots of positive feedback about how it has helped people recognize and honor their feelings during a difficult time. Kudos to the authors & illustrator for their insight into the process of a healthy recovery from loss.

5 out of 5 stars Understated, Yet Compelling   September 29, 2009
Jan Friedman (Virginia, United States)
This is a book for all ages, a book for anyone who has experienced loss of a loved one. The reader never knows why the main character is grieving, but that is not the point. The grief is understated, yet the message is compelling. Grief is personal as is the time one needs to express it. The graphics add to the message, and I loved how the Basset Hound was in all the pictures helping to express the mood. I purchased two copies after a friend gave this to me and mailed them out to those who had also been greatly affected by our family loss.
