5 out of 5 stars very good resource   October 27, 2009

This book is a very good resource for both the people who undergo bariatric surgery and learning how to maintain their weight loss, and also for those who will be helping them in a professional capacity. It is chock full of the pitfalls and how to overcome them so that patients can have maximal success in the hardest part of the whole journey - the maintaining of weight loss.

2 out of 5 stars Not much more than a bandaid   April 17, 2009

I've been searching desperately to find a book which deals, in depth, with the unique problems facing people who've had gastric bypass surgery. There's plenty written about life pre-op and immediately post-op, but precious little about the issues one faces a year, five year, ten years out. The description of this book seemed to promise such a discussion, but it is, in fact, little more than a very basic how-to-diet-successfully book. If you're relatively new to the whole issue of dieting, it might be useful, but if you're a veteran of the fat wars, then not so much.

5 out of 5 stars Loved IT!   March 3, 2009

This book was exactly what I was looking for - I have bought numerous bariatric surgery books over the last 6 months and also attend 6 months of preop classes and this did more for me than all of that!
This book is THE book that if you really are thinking of or planning to have gastric bypass that you and your spouse/loved ones should read before you have your surgery. Mental preperation is what makes the procdure a sucess long term - so this really is a must have (actually I think they should hand it out at your first Dr's appt.)

5 out of 5 stars Important Pre & Post-Surgery Resource   February 9, 2009

This book confirmed my concerns that "emotional eating" was not going to go away after surgey. It helped me understand how it could still happen, how to be prepared for it, and how to get through it. The book provided clear options for handling different situation so I would be able to deal with it successfully. Paperback size allows you to have it with you whenever you might need some help. Great pre-surgery reading to answer questions.

I'm not sure what I expected but this book wasn't it. I am 5 months post gastric bypass but I did not find this book to be helpful.
