INSPIRING! I LOVE THIS BOOK! November 18, 2009 Jeff Zook (PA ,USA) I give this book an A+. If you like his other books than you need to buy this one too. It's worth the money. Joel Osteen is telling the truth. God gave me a desire to be an Real Estate investor. The only problem is I'm in my mid twenties and a good bit in debt. I kept praying and believing God was going to answer my prayers and he sure did. To make a long story short. I met two of my partners and they help me get into Real Estate investing. I'm part owners of 15 units and how we got into these deals was a miracle from God.
Absolutely Fantastic! November 14, 2009 SandraD1213 (Cleveland, OH) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really look foward to watching Joel Osteen on TV and read his books. I find them VERY helpful in teaching me and my family how to face life, how to pray, and how to ask for God's favor. We used to watch his father every week and enjoyed that also. I would highly recommend this book. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to experience the Osteen Ministry.
It's (Not Worth) Your Time November 14, 2009 high-rollah 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I really like Joel Osteen. Since I started watching him on TV years ago, alot of what he speaks to makes sense to me, and he has enriched my life in many ways. I read his first book, and enjoyed it. Then I read his second book, and noticed he borrowed some material from his first book. I had very high hopes for this new release, and thought this time the book would contain all new material. Maybe my hopes were too high.
After reading this book, I came to the conclusion that this time around he is just phoning it in. Most of "It's Your Time" is comprised of recycled anecdotes and passages from his previous two books, as well as transcriptions of a few TV sermons. How many times do we need to hear how he met his wife? We get it already....you bought a cheap watch. Or his deal with the Compaq Center(I don't think we'll ever hear the end of that one), or the story about the exploding can of biscuits, and about 50 other passages that made me stop and check the book jacket to see if I was reading his "new" book or one of his previous books. Anyone else notice this too?
There was a smattering of new paragraphs, but not enough to justify 300 pages.....a pamphlet maybe. I hope the next time around will not be as disappointing. So in the meantime, I will stay in faith, and pray for some new material. Amen.
For people who love God November 7, 2009 A. Bui (los angeles, california) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
All I can say about the negative reviews are that they are by people who have never even picked up and read any of his books and like to make many negative assumptions. They are trying to sum up that Joel is trying to preach that if you follow God, wealth follows. THATS NOT WHAT JOEL IS ABOUT PEOPLE. If they had ever thoroughly listened to Joel's sermons and read through his books, they would see that Joel is talking about a God who loves us and cares for us. Not a God who lets his people suffer and forgets about them. He lets people know that if their faith is strong and if they live a godly life, they WILL come into the blessings of their Father and bring blessings to others as well.Blessings include PROTECTION, FINDING YOUR LIFE PURPOSE, FINDING HAPPINESS AND JOY, HEALTH, everything. Of course this is not the whole thing but a better explanation than what negative reviewers are saying. All I can say is that my ENTIRE family and I have followed and changed our ways of thinking and living thanks to Joel and firsthand have seen MIRACLES transform our lives. This had never occurred previously. Joel changed our life and if you want to listen to naysayers who don't even bother to listen to his messages, go ahead. But for someone who has seen firsthand the results of following Joel's messages and thinking and way of life, I HAVE seen the good things of God and my life has changed miraculously. So Bless this man that God created to help inspire others and spread his messages.
Also, for people envious or resentful of Joel's popularity, he is not "trying" to be popular. These are his own beliefs and he grew up in a family who believed in a God of goodness and love. He also walks the talk, and practices what he believes and that's why he is inspiring because we see how God always works in situations in his own life and others. He was even scared to preach when he first began ministering, he had no idea he would one day have millions of followers. He wrote books according to his beliefs and what is from the bible and they have now sold in the millions worldwide. He had no idea that would happen, he was only writing from his heart. So its ridiculous for people to say he is only trying to be "popular". He is only being himself.
Is it wrong to be happy and love God? November 6, 2009 Tiffany Chapman (Seattle, WA United States) 22 out of 33 found this review helpful
I love to read the negative reviews because they are such sad and negative people wanting to battle it out. "The first act of war is defense" and they are feeling defensive, relying on their human ego, instead of leaving it all to God. If Joel Osteen is so wrong then let God deal with it. We are here to love our fellow man/woman, not get all crazy over a simple book that shows people a path to happiness. RELAX and enjoy God's goodness. And please stop over analyzing everything matter based and abusing The Bible to harass other people.
As usual this is an uplifting book. I suggest the overly serious and scholarly read it to learn that the spirit is more important than the letter, as The Bible suggests. It's the sinners that go first into heaven because they are hungry for God's love. They do not receive God's grace because of reading and memorizing The Bible, but because they love and believe and know that the Christ does heal and save.
