best training book out there November 13, 2009 Digby (New England) This is the best training book out there. Period. It is easy to use; pictures and instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Good whether this is your first dog or you want to explore a different, positive - not punitive - approach to training. I am a breeder and I now give a copy of this book to everyone who purchases a puppy from me. Clicker training is the fastest way to train your dog. And dogs love it. Mine pester me for training sessions if I try to skip a day!
Both the dog and I love it! July 26, 2009 Timothy B. Riley (San Antonio, TX USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2G91T8IRLW3YX I have a "joint custody" arrangement with a neighbor for her Toy Yorkie. I make a reference in my video to the book that inspired me to get this one, but I gave the name incorrectly. When I read "Reaching the Animal Mind" by Karen Pryor I decided that clicker training was the approach that we should take with Bella and my neighbor agreed.
Bella wanted to play-bite way too often, so we taught her how to play-bite on command and then gave her the command for "don't bite". It has worked in real life. The same with barking and some other puppy issues.
This is not a quick-fix (although they do learn the tricks in an amazingly short time frame) but instead it is a template for teaching your dog some alternative behaviors. Bella knows quite a few additional "tricks" but here I show some of her favorites. I hope that this video is helpful.

don't give your dog raisins as imlied as a treat!!!! July 25, 2009 Michelle Milne (evanston IL) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
First... there is an illustration in this book that shows raisens as a possible treat. Raisens and grapes are deadly for dogs! After nearly losing a golden...only saved through great vet care and luck I want all to know this......
That said...I love the book and can only assume error was made in bad edditing.
Not For All Dogs Or Situations April 19, 2009 KraftyKid 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
First to those who think your dog will get over weight on clicker training. It is very simple to measure out their next feeding and take the "treats" from there.
I determined that the clicker method would not work with the dog that I had just acquired. His attention span was a nanosecond! First thing I discovered is he had never had a real hands on relation with a human before. So all training stopped until he got to the point of being petted and groomed. Next I determined that he did know some commands; sit, stay, down. These commands were reinforced again by contact and praise.
When I teach him a new command I do use the clicker until he pays attention, then immediately turn to praise. Please do not get "locked" into one type of training and never try to train a vicious dog. Either get rid of him or take him to a professional trainer. Perhaps I would have had better luck with the clicker method if I had gotten this dog as a small pup. However, he came to me as a 5 month old black lab, weighing 70 pounds of pure energy.
Please maintain flexibility in your training method. Sometimes we have to be smarter than the dog (G).
Clicker training instruction April 8, 2009 Debbie Dobson (New Jersey) I was extremely pleased with the book and how easy it was to read the instructions and to just look at the illustrations to learn clicker training. The illustrated instructions were easy to follow and duplicate.
