5 out of 5 stars awesome guide   January 24, 2010

I am a beginner in all aspects of this sport and found this guide incredibly helpful. Hate books that tell you how to do it by describing... this book actually shows you diagrams that are easy to understand. Love the tips on training for more than just the hunt and the step by step instruction (again pictures!) My dog has only had 3 days in the field and only a few more training in the neighborhood and he is already quartering a bit and retrieving live and dead birds! Did I mention he started at the age of 1 1/2 years NOT a puppy!

Now this is what I am talking about. For years I have been wanting a easy to read, step by step how to book for training my field dogs. Anthony Z Roettger and Benjamin H. Schleider III have done it and then some. What a great book. I was very impressed at how quick my young pup pick up on the first sets of instructions with the "hup". Great job guys. BIG two thumbs up!!!

Another success by Schleider and Roettger! This book has great illustrations in a simple to follow format all in one small, inexpensive book that can be carried in my pocket when I hit the field, park or wherever to train! The book works for my spaniel as well as my golden. Which helps me, help my dogs to be better in the field! With fall upon us rest assured I will be ready with my two dog!

Great book!!

3 out of 5 stars not what i expected   August 10, 2009

This book contains some good drills. However the drills were mainly for basic obedience and I thought there would be more retrieving drills, i.e. for marks or blinds so I was slightly disappointed.
