Battery may not be dead when you think it is! February 27, 2010 J. McCampbell (Minneapolis, MN) I put in a cat fence last summer and training took approximately 3 weeks, after which I changed the batteries on both cat collars. Since then - 6 months ago - I've not had to change them again. Firstly, the cats only wear the collars when they go out - they don't have them on all the time. Secondly, I turn the collars off when they're not in use (that once-a-minute green flash takes a lot of battery-power over time). Thirdly, when I turn them back on, they frequently (about 60% of the time) seem to be dead because the red flash doesn't appear. But I've found that if you take the key and turn the battery pack all the way to the right (past the "OFF" position until the line is in the 3 o'clock position), wait ten seconds and then turn it back to the on position, it will typically start working again. Failing that, take the battery out and rub the contact points in the collar and put it back again. If I changed the batteries every time the lights didn't flash, I'd have changed them once a week. As it is, they've worked pretty well for me - and I know at least one of my cats frequently tests the boundaries!
Yes, Replace it Yourself January 18, 2010 Southern Gentleman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Following advice from other reviewers, I took the module apart and removed the battery. I'm not a handy person but there was nothing to it. I just ordered six replacement batteries online for less than what Petsafe charges for two. Considering how fast they burn out, buying them for my two cats from petsafe would cost me over $100 a year. This way it will be less than $35.
Petsafe RFA-188 3 volt Lithium Battery September 27, 2009 J. Morris (Marathon, Florida) Great product and great price other internet sites were twice as much for the same product, but really what else can you say about a battery, to review? What I do what to review is Amazon.com *****Thank Goodness for Amazon.com because we can't find these where we live down in the Florida Keys. How did people shop down here before the internet? : )
CHANGE THE BATTERY YOURSELF FOR 3 BUCKS! June 5, 2009 pronoman 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
OK, so scrolling through the reviews here there are endless 1-star, "the battery dies in a month reviews". No kiddin! We saw it the first, second, third, fourth, etc... Time! I had a Petsafe collar with a red blinking light... I took out the Petsafe battery and figured out what needed to be done to replace it within a minute, so can you. When you remove the battery, the positive terminal (silver top of the battery with a "+" on it) will have a plastic ring around it that holds the battery in the holder. If you look carefully, you will see a couple of tabs and a seam that runs around the top lip. Just use a small screwdriver, or pocket knife to pry this ring off. It will break off...No matter - it was only glued on to begin with. Now get a pair of needle-nose pliers and grab gently along the side of the battery (where metal is exposed on the sides)... It may take a tiny bit of force to pull out, but it came right out for me. Now install a new Sanyo (or other brand) CR-1/3N battery (I picked one up at WalMart for $3.OO) by pressing it back in. You don't need to worry about gluing anything, it will hold just fine and will be that much easier to remove next month when it dies again. Now plug that joker back in and you're GTG. Petsafe makes a great product, but they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to sell this battery off as proprietary - BS!! Good Luck!
Petsafe Battery April 13, 2009 Stacey Kelley (Maine) Great delivery time and the batteries are the correct ones for my cats receiver collar. I can't seem to find this type of battery any place else so I'm very happy to know I can get them through Amazon.
Thank You
