3 out of 5 stars Great backpack, but not durable   January 16, 2009

I got one of these for my German Shepherd dog. It lasted a few months while we hiked in the woods. I would put some weights in there to tire him out (if you do this be sure to get information as to how much your dog can carry per weight, age and fitness level). Well, just today he got himself into an Azalea bush. These bushes don't have thorns or any kind of defense that would rip fabric, and he didn't even struggle. He just backed out like everything was fine, but the backpack was ripped up at the seams! It's torn at the seams along the zipper, reflective tape and some other places. It is as if the stitching just came out very easily. I thought this pack was wonderful for the time I used it, however, I think it should be able to withstand your basic harmless neighborhood bush!

Pros:
*Washable (according to the packaging, although I never washed it because it was easy to just brush dirt off of, and I didn't have it that long.)
*Easy fitting... more than one place to adjust the straps
*Padding over the buckles for comfort
*Bag attaches to harness separately by velcro, so if you don't want to unbuckle the whole dog, you can just pull the pack off.
*A lot of room in the pockets so your dog can carry more
*Front strap has a lot of room to adjust, so you can fit the pack a little more over the dog's shoulders than the middle of his back (packs that fit on the middle of the back can hurt your dog)
*Choice of colors. I chose blue and it was a pleasant color.
*Two straps under the girth instead of one increases proper fit and grip.
*Reflective tape in case you walk in the dark
*Lightweight without anything in it

Cons:
*Not durable. This product claims it's made with nylon strength... but the sewing is single layered and normal... like you find on a pair of jeans. I don't call that durable. If this pack can't hold up to a normal bush with no thorny defense mechanisms after only owning it for about 4 months, I'd say it's construction is weak. I loved this pack until today. Now I am thoroughly disappointed.

If you only walk in areas with no bushes to get caught in, then go ahead and get this pack. I highly recommend it. I loved it for the short time I had it. If on the other hand, you walk in areas where there are a lot of bushes, I wouldn't recommend it at all. I would hate to see what a thorny bush would have done to it! Now I have to order another pack and I'm looking for something made tougher. Overall though, it really is a simple, easy to use and great backpack (just be gentle...)!

5 out of 5 stars Dog Backpack   October 21, 2008

Great product. Definately sized large, as per other reviews. PPE Pet supplies did a wonderful job of sending us another pack when one of the buckles broke. Dog likes it, carries her stuff well, makes her more attentive. Boxer, female, 62 lbs 2.5 yrs old. Just cut the excess strap and melt the ends, done it on two packs now and works great.

5 out of 5 stars Versatile, good fit, adjustable, convenient   March 16, 2008

We're very happy with this backpack. It fits our dog well, is easily adjustable and also allows for a wide range of sizes with regards to the straps. It's attractive and works great for our purposes!

Make sure you actually measure the girth of your dog when deciding on a size. The description gives weight ranges along with the different sizes but those can be misleading.

4 out of 5 stars Dog Backpack   February 28, 2008

Good product. However, be warned-these backpacks are sized VERY LARGE! I bought a medium for my boxer mix dog, who weighs 55 lbs. The medium is supposed to be for dogs UP TO 50 lbs., but the backpack is still loose around her body.

4 out of 5 stars Why carry a purse, when you have a dog?   May 4, 2007

This backpack is wonderful! My dog functions as a service dog for me, so she often carries some of my personal items. The pockets are roomy, letting me stow as much (and more!) as she could carry. However, she also carries her own food and water other times, too, as well as a few essentials of mine. Who is going to steal them off of your dog?

Beware of two things, however- if weight is not evenly distributed on each side, the pack will skew to one side and make your dog very uncomfortable. Also, the sizes on the packaging are misleading. My dog weighs almost 60lbs, but the large (which I originally got her) was much too big.
