5 out of 5 stars Puppy Preschool   October 15, 2009
M. Jordan (Danville, Illinois)
Although I have raised seven dogs over the past thirty years, this book had great lessons and reminders. After reading the book, I realize why some of our past pets had problems as adult dogs. The tips show how to develop a dog that will become a great addition to the family!

5 out of 5 stars My dog has impeccable manners!   October 8, 2009
Cincy
I have one of the best behaved dogs I have ever met and I owe much of that to this book. My brother suggested this book when I bought my labradoodle 3 years ago. I read it cover to cover the day I brought her home and tried to follow it as closely as I could. I had a little trouble getting myself to "growl" at her as I was living in a busy apartment complex at the time but I used a stern "bad dog" which worked for me. One of the best things I learned from this book was how to acclimate my new pup to her crate which was key! Before long, she knew that when I brushed my teeth in the morning it was time for her to go to her crate. I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about getting a dog. It has so much great information!!! I'm so thankful I read it because I truly do have a great dog!

5 out of 5 stars Puppy Preschool   September 5, 2009
Derek F. Drolet (Somersworth, NH USA)
This book is a must for anyone who wants a puppy but has little or no experience on how to select the proper puppy. The book also helps people understand canine traits and how puppies think and learn. It really helps you understand puppies and dogs from a canine vantage point.

5 out of 5 stars Great puppy book   September 1, 2009
Bernice Fischer (Cookeville, Tn USA)
This is one of the most informative books on raising a well mannered puppy I've ever read. Answers almost all your questions on why he does that and also how to prevent and stop unwanted behavior. Raising a large breed dog is certainly a challenge and this book starts you out on the right foot. Great job to the authors.

5 out of 5 stars Read before the puppy arrives   October 28, 2008
E. Schneider (Anchorage, AK United States)
After we decided to adopt a puppy we went to the library to check out books in order to prepare for our new arrival. I sorted through many different books, and started reading a bunch of them once I got about 8 of them home. Out of all the books I checked out from the library this was the one that was the most readable and most useful. I'm online now to purchase it so I can mark it up, add tabs, as well as hold onto it for future reference. There's a lot of useful information on what to do from day one--handling, wearing collar, using a leash, stop mouthing, house training, etc. A great book to build a good foundation before formal puppy training begins around 4 mo. I highly recommend it--we're so glad we found this book before we brought our puppy home.
