Product Description "Ivan's training comes from the heart, for the dog. He has certainly enhanced my view of training and has taught me many valuable, yet simple techniques to achieve the most from my dogs and myself." —Mary A. Allen, World Championship Competitor, USA Apprentice Judge, USA New England Regional Director "Ivan Balabanov is among the few top trainers in the country who truly understands dog behavior and drives. He is highly respected by the best Schutzhund competitors, trainers and coaches in the country." —Glenn Stephenson, United Schutzhund Clubs of America Judge, International competitor Training methods for the top competitor. Advanced Schutzhund takes a problem-solving approach to Level III work that will help competitors bring their dogs to the highest level. Tracking, obedience and protection are dealt with individually, analyzing specific problems that crop up in each skill and offering step-by-step solutions. The approach uses operant conditioning techniques that steer clear of compulsion methods and build a dog's confidence, courage and problem-solving ability. You'll also find tips on how to compete at the National and World levels, including traveling with your dog. A Howell Dog Book of Distinction

This is the Schutzhund book to get February 13, 2009 S. Gleitsmann (San Jose, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read a lot of books about Schutzhund training over the years. Most were mere translations of old German or Swiss titles describing even older training methods. Advanced Schutzhund is different. Not only is it co-authored by one of America's top Schutzhund competitors who has actually demonstrated that his methods work, it is also based on today's understanding of how dogs learn and behave. Don't go for one of those book translations originally published in the 70's - If you are looking for the cutting edge in Schutzhund, this is the book to get!
Fantastic for schutzhund or even competative obedience September 26, 2008 Just Me (here and there across the USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great book on working a dog using drives (mainly play, prey) and positive techniques. Much better than adversive schutzhund techniques. Lots here for the competative obedience person or anyone working a high-drive dog. Highly recommended.
Excellent ADVANCED Schutzhund/Obedience Book! Goes best with Ivan Balabanov's DVD's, however. March 22, 2006 Jennifer Ruzsa (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is best read by someone who has watched Ivan Balabanov's two DVD's in the "Obedience Without Conflict" series. After watching the DVD's and reading this book, be sure to join The_Balabanov_Method on Yahoo! Groups:

Descriptive and very helpful, a little dry reading but still very helpful.
Advanced Schutzhund June 5, 2000 Sherry L. Thomas (Upstate New York, USA) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
The book was very informative, but I wouldn't suggest that a person without a strong working knowledge of training dogs reads this book untill they become more familar with dog training and the sport of Schutzhund.
