Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE FOR DOGS is the most comprehensive book on dog health care available and a 'must have' resource for the more than 50 million U.S. households that have dogs for pets. Written by expert vets, this book is a practical guide to identifying and treating many of the most common ailments a dog is likely to suffer from. There is information on diagnosing an ailing pet, together with advice on how to treat the problem. The book is filled with more than 100 photographs as well as handy boxes that show, at-a-glance, the likely cost of treatment, how urgently it should be sought from your vet and how to diagnose conditions. In addition to diagnosing common ailments, the book also includes information on homeopathic remedies, treatments and advice on general health care to prevent ailments from recurring.

The book is divided into sections, such as 'Ear Conditions', 'Eye Conditions', 'Breathing and Circulation', to make it easy to reference specific problems. It also includes a handy, at-a-glance first aid section. Although it cannot take the place of a qualified vet, this book will certainly help reduce the amount of time you spend in the vet's waiting room. From puppyhood to old age, this comprehensive guide is intended to help pet owners look after and take care of their dogs through all stages of life.

Here's why every dog owner should have this book:

**It's written by expert veterinarians
**It's the most comprehensive dog care book on the market
**You'll be able to identify common ailments, from minor to life-threatening
**It covers health maintenance issues for the entire life span of the pet
**Provides a wealth of information at an affordable price
**There's a great at-a-glance first aid section
**You can cut down on costly visits to the vet

Amazon.com Review
Written by James McKay with contributions from a team of consulting animal care specialists, Comprehensive Health Care for Dogs covers everything from the fundamentals of emergency first aid treatment to ingrown nails. What separates this guide from the rest is its ease of use. The book offers a tremendous amount of medical information, but presents it in a manner that is easy to read and understand. Paragraphs are kept short and to the point, with large-print headlines helping your eyes to easily scan the page for pertinent information in an emergency. Every disease description includes symptoms, underlying causes, owner action, medical treatment, expected cost of care, and a useful urgency indicator, which is a small colored box that informs you whether a veterinarian should be seen immediately, soon, or not at all. The inclusion of the approximate costs involved in each treatment is an unusual addition and one that can help with planning when you're confronted with a potentially serious illness. While Comprehensive Health Care for Dogs won't replace your dog's vet, don't you owe it to your four-legged friend to know as much about his health as you do about your own? --Jill Lightner
