Product Description The second in a series devoted to dogs from the editors of Rodale's multimedia venture, Pets: part of the family, including a PBS series, magazine and Website.
This second volume in the Dog Lover's Care Guides series takes the expertise of the Pets: part of the family magazine editors and focuses it specifically for dog owners. All dog lovers wonder what their pets are thinking. With Dogspeak, they'll learn to understand the complex world of dog communication and how to use this knowledge to enhance their relationship with their pets. They'll learn:
- Why dogs can smell bombs better than state-of-the-art equipment - How to communicate with their dogs by "barking back" - Why yelping like a puppy will stop a dog who plays too rough - What is so terrifying about thunder
All of the information in Dogspeak is integrated so that it can be put to work in training, playing, and living with a dog. Amazing photographs, easy-to-follow illustrations, fun sidebars, and tons of tips from the country's top animal behaviorists, professional trainers, and communication experts will guide readers as they work toward a deeper, more productive, more enjoyable partnership with their canine companions.

Some useful information about canine body language July 1, 2006 Jodie Ray Kelley (Seattle, WA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Dogspeak is one of many dog behavior books I have purchased in the hope of solving a few behavior problems. This book was not the solution to my dog's problem, but it did provide good information for interpreting a dog's body language. I found the photos of different ear and tail positions particularly useful.
Dogspeak, should accompany every owner who has a dog! April 13, 2000 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have to tell you all that this book is so incredible and helpful in raising my lab. I purchased it and read this within a matter of two nights. It helped me understand so much more about my puppy, Bailey. You will not be sorry... :) GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN READING THIS! A+++++ ALL THE WAY!
Excellent! December 25, 1999 Jacqueline Kruger (Redmond, WA) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
I always knew she had lots to say but I had no idea how much. Now I can begin to try and understand her and have her understand me. I found the information fascinating and informative and have developed a whole new appreciation of the emotional complexity of our canine family members and how easily we can misunderstand them.
