Product Description This volume is a comprehensive guide to the practice of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. It is patterned along the lines of the American Veterinary Dental College program and provides protocols used by the American Animal Hospital Association. Many illustrations show both prophylactic and restorative procedures for feline and canine patients.Coverage begins with information on dental equipment, oral anatomy and physiology, and diagnostic procedures, including the oral examination, clinical oral pathology, and radiology. Subsequent chapters cover pedodontics, periodontology, oral surgery, fracture repair, endodontic therapies, operative and restorative dentistry, and orthodontics. Other chapters provide a thorough understanding of dental and oral disease in domestic felines, rodents, lagomorphs, exotic animals, and large animals. The book also includes a guide to marketing a veterinary dentistry practice; a directory of equipment manufacturers and distributors; a list of American National Standard and American Dental Association specifications; and a glossary.

| Customer Reviews: Veterinary Dentistry: Principles and Practice April 6, 2008 K. Linderman DVM (Ooltewah, TN United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of the dentistry texts that you will find here are too general to be helpful in advancing your knowledge of dentistry. This text was recommended to me by a board certified veterinary dentist as a way to learn the etiology and the "why" eveything is done as it is. If you are at that place where you are learning more advanced procedures and techniques but you need some good knowledge to pair with your new skills, this is probably the text with which to start. There are also other texts here from the AVDS reading list but this is a great general text.

An excellent resource for those who are developing an involved interest in veterinary dentistry. A comprehensive text that discusses why certain dental procedures are done and the physiologic response to these treatments.
